Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Well, this thread has sure been active today ..... with a bunch of comedians! Hey, I like that brooder, by the way. That is a very nice set-up you have. The chick pictures are great. I love the way they eat out of your hand. Awwww, those sweet little Dels!

Purple eggs .... well, I have one that lays an egg about that color. All kinds of pinkish shades.

I can hardly wait to hear all the stories from Ohio, Beth! Be sure to take lots of pictures!

I've had them outside in that brooder since about an hour after bringing them home. We cover the glass side with a foam board at night. They have free access to: chick feed, water, chick grit, bugs, grass/plants, a roost gymnasium, a dusting box and now a bird bath if they want

One lil chick continues to display fearlessly curious, protective, assertive nature and a good friend.

I didn't know there was competition on this forum, HUMPH!

Now I can't take a pic of the egg in question cuz it got put right in the bator and If it hatches it will be the prettiest chick in the world.

I just wondered if they were age spots since she is older. I'm older and I've got purple spots all over the place. Maybe I should change my tag to "speckledrooster"

I woke up one night and caught my DW playing connect the dots.

Thanks Joletabey... Does it look like a pullet to you? Well we are not sure about laying... I just got them this weekend from a woman on a farm who has gotten alot of handme downs besides her own flock so very mixed group. she thought 6-9 months, but she has 40 birds, so not 100% sure who is laying and who is not. They have been in my backyard coop this weekend and out of 4 birds ( 3 look mature, 1 not so much) 1 laid an egg today (hooray our first) I just dont know whose it is.
Of the 4 birds, our Delaware mix is the most shy with us, but a big bird compared to the others and gets a little agressive with them, especially if they get in the nest box she liked to hang out in.

I mostly want to know she is a she!!! she is gorgeous and we love her, although my 4 year old son named her hulk since she was so big.

thanks for your thoughts!

Love the little Del pics, oh someday hopefully sooner than later I'll get to kick off my breeder program, maybe around springtime.

Later on,

So far, I think this is my favorite picture of my little Del x EE girls that I got from Kathy [Kathyinmo]. They're just so sweet!

I really do love those three to pieces Kathy! Ain't those just the most cuddle-able little faces you've ever seen?

I just hope I can convince the three of them to join the main flock tomorrow. I leave on Wednesday, weather and the mountain passes permitting, for a few days to see mom in Tacoma. I've got to get them settled into the main coop so I can put my boys in the little coop. Oh gawds! I'm running out of time! Stress heart attack, coming on!

Thanks again for letting me adopt them Kathy. I don't know when, and I'm not sure how, but someday, I hope to return your kindness!

I love that picture, too, Amy!!

Maggie is such a sweet mama. I don't know if she is ever gonna let those kids go out on their own! You are soooo welcome! You have helped me downsize, ya know! So, there ya go, that is the favor in return! I will have to send you all their baby pictures, for the family album.
lol.png
I am so glad you are happy with them. I rest knowing they are being well cared for! Did Maggie finish molting? Does she have all her new pretty feathers in now? I thought she was about done molting before she left here.

OMGosh David! Absolutely adorable! It's amazing how young their instincts will kick in. Such independent little cusses!
lol.png

Kathy, no, she's not quite done yet with her molt. Though she has been filling out on the top of her head and her beard and muffs are thickening up nicely! She's loosing her flight feathers now.

I've collected up two full pairs [2 left & 2right] in the last week alone. I'm thinking of incorporating them into a dream catcher, along with feathers from some of my other favorite girls.

As I watch Lisette and Cosette grow, I can see Cosette's cheek puffs coming in more and more every day. I don't think Cosette's were quite as noticeable when they first arrived as they are now. Both little girls will have the trademark EE muffs and beards in full bloom by the time they mature and start laying eggs, I'm sure!
love.gif

I think I'm going to have to get some colored leg bands for those two. It's getting to where at a distance, they're getting a little harder to tell apart. But I think Cosette is definitely the larger of the two. Fat lot of good that does me if they're not standing side by side though!
lol.png
And that's really the only time I have any trouble telling them apart. But in those instances, all I have to really remember is that Lisette is rarely more than 10 feet in any direction away from Mama Maggie! Cosette is the adventuresome one!
