Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Sorry , I always think of something to add then wind up going back after the fact and writing it so re posting this

We have a bunch of these coming next spring..Honestly striking in person...its hard to get a great pic of chickens but in person these birds are worth the price..hes been working on strenghthening the tail barring and correct color and amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it. Hes a super nice person and will not be selling hatching eggs this next year but will do special order hatchs only...too much rough handeling throu shipping and too much wasted eggs..Like I said we have a boat load coming from several different sources..

One other breeder who has been champion american with his dels we have tried and tried to get ahold of but he has so many irons in the fire that hes hard to pin down..SOOOO.Im a determined one..Im going right down to his impressive stable of poultry and making my intentions known..This guy has been best in show so many times with different birds hes a master breeeder but also wins with cattle rabbits ect...and he wins all over at top shows,,,he has so many animals that he must just collapse in bed tired at night..

He will be taking orders in Jan..min of 25 chicks..Im excited to see how they develop..this breed was nearly lost so thank goodness for all of the people working on this..I will get ahold of that other breeder too..I will trot myself right down there early next spring..I would like 2 of my freinds and I to get ahold of some of his birds EVEN If I have to buY A TRIO..

i KEEP MY EYES PEELED WHEN iM OUT TO THE SHOWS AND i HAVE ONEOF MY GOOD FREINDS PASTOR ROLAND ROMIG OUT LOOKING TOO HE JUDGES ALL OVER US AND PICKS UP BIRDS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY..Ive got him on the quest for dels...hes out west judging right this weekens somewhere..I told him if they are worth it...pick them up..he might be calling and stopping by a freinds to drop anything worth while he finds...

I got this fantastic cockeral from the whitneys , some of the nicest people alive and this bird is much loved..thou we are only geting ready to build a del pen setup..Bennie the australorp is flock boss.again its hard to get a good chicken pic , he is out of the east coast champion australorps and is really fantastic in person..bennie will be shown in roosters at APA shows next year and breeding him to our blue ribbon hens and made a promise to a little girl in bayou coutry , she wants to show australorp chickens so sending her some eggs..these kids are the future so I want her to really have a good time with well bred birds ..I told her all I want from her is some pictures of her and her bird and her winnings..the whitneys had an australorp hen that has been RBOS 2 times and a lanshan pullet that has been BOS every APA show she has been at..I think thier pictures were in oct and nov poultry press.

I take really bad pics but this is bennie

This is a del hen at the APA show...again forgive the bad pic..I need a camera that doesnt have a 5 second delay between the time I push the button and the time it actually takes the pic..

Bennie is gorgeous! It is good that you are helping the next generation by hooking them young

I can only imagine if my parents had given into my desire to get 4-H chicks where I would be now!!!

I know tha a few adults did kind things for me like that and I spent a lifetime remembering it and passing the torch to the next generation..I never forgot some of the people along the way..Ive met both kinds. bone evil and so kind and helpful you cant imagine..Its the kind ones you remember..

These shows are shrinking every year, all the old timers are dying off and retiring and only keeping a few private birds..back in the 40s they told me there would up to 50 dels entered at one show...now your lucky to see 2...gotta give these kids a learning curve..they will pass it on again..some divisions are still going strong and 1000 birds isnt a bad number , but without these kids it might not carry on..

I love bennie, hes a classic australorp..I just pinch myself when I go out and see that shiney rooster with his classic curvey profile and metalic green sheen..Hope some of his babies make a little girl as happy as I am...cant wait till breeding season and see what he and buttercups produce..shes a multi blue ribbon hen..shes gotten a BOB here and there but just didnt quite have the ooomph to jump past that fantastic silver dorking for best english..that bird was near perfect..buttercups is retired at 3 from showing and hopefully she will produce a lot of little girls since shes older hen

My husband frames the ribbons and hangs them on the kitchen wall next to an old menu from his grandfathers resturant with a "he man special" breakfast hee hee..its cute

I do have to agree with you. I wish more kids would get into it! It is a great opportunity for young ones to learn and become really good at something worth while. I have given chicks to a few kids around here. My niece is CRAZY about Del's so I was out there in the cold a few weeks ago building her a coop and picking several chickens for her to start out with. She lives with my mom, she is 6, and she told mom "You can have them eggs, but the chickens are MINE! Aunt Cindi said so!"

She's a hoot! I LOVE to see kids get so excited about things that will serve them well later in life!

That is so wonderful, she will always remember that..If they have a wonderful time with it...they will carry it for the rest of tier lives..

And this is one of my favorites
Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called Sons of God. Matthew 5:9
