Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Awwwww! Poor Floozy! The place won't be the same without her strutting around on the coop roof and thumbing her beak at you and Mike!!

I know we are trying to improve the breed here and the SOP calls for barring in the hackles....but I confess my sons really like the V's our Sand Hill girls have instead of barring, calling them "Lace Collars". Every Delaware's nickname is "Lacey" and they all come running and have to be nudged out of the way to get into the coop.

I haven't a Del Roo anyway, so it does not matter. They make fine layers.

Anyone know if Duane Urch has Delawares?

Humidity in the insulated coop room seems high, and the male human answer at our house is "more heat".

OK so there we go. Actually as I tried to take a picture one of the Dells jumped right on my hand

. I could not take a picture of that because she was practically sitting on the camera

. It was too funny. You also see some Anconas in the background. Disclaimer: My Dells may not be perfect, they are Welp Dells. But very happy (the chicks and me

). Now 3+ weeks and counting/growing.

Cindiloo - are you joking? Are you OK? You have some nice Dels, as I recall. I hope you are alright, and just kidding us!

CA, Welp is one of the hatcheries that seems to have nice Dels. I have see one or two that are really nice. And your first baby has the mind control look thing going-

JoAnne- I do not believe Urch's have Delawares.

Nope, I have no Light Sussex rooster. Well, I do have some baby ones growing out now (split Coronations) .....

How are those coronations doing? Do you have pics.

I've got some new Del chicks as you know and I'll post pics of the ones Trilyn hatched for me. I''m hoping 3/3 on sex. but of course would rahter more girls. Trilyn got half the new batch and I'm gearing up for another hatch. Now I ahve to ask. Can you tell as a chick which will be the heaviest?
While I have to say my Dels are the best layers I have considering I've got 8 with Nick and I've got 2 EE's in there too. The other side has, 12 hens of various breeds and I might get 4 eggs on a good day. I have some CMs' that will be two in Feb and I'm not sure they're laying. Could there be a reason they aren't. My WNY Dels have to be two or older and they're doing much better. I've got 2 GLW., 2 Dom, 3 CM, 2 BO, 1 EE, 1 friz, 1 Del. I have seen the older girls glw, dom, cm, bo. in the nest box on occasion but I'm not getting many eggs. Now I will say I have 4 roos. all young, could that be causing the stress and them not laying?

Unfortunately no, hubs got the dreaded speech at work today. They let him go. No income=no chicken feed=unhealthy chickens=dead chickens. I don't wanna watch them starve
hmm.png
I love them enough to let them go

So........anybody?

Oh, I am keeping 4 breeders. I have a niiiiiice little roo coming up, and several ladies to go with him that will be set aside. Parent stock and siblings need to go. Everything else for my sex link project goes too. As do my new Marans babies and the Ameracaunas, and the sweet Buff Orps, and the turkeys probably and likely the Muscovies....might even sell the kid if her feed bill goes up any more
