Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

I have had Del lay ones like 1,3,& 4. Never one like a #2 egg. The one who layed dark eggs was 3 years old and all of a sudden started laying dark eggs. Never got a dark egg out of that flock... no new hens... then BAM dark eggs one day. Never alot, and it was never consistant. But that is porbrably because she was 3 years old already.

The "4" look of a BIG egg that seems more glossy and evenly pinkish brown... those are consistant. And of course a normal #1 egg is consistant too.

On the #2 egg... I would like to tell you that I have a "leghorn" who lays blue eggs. Turns out she is a barnyard cross.... suites me just fine.

Oops! In that picture, only the jumbo egg is from a delaware. I have EE's, welsummers and others too. Right now I only have three delaware hens, can't wait till spring when I will be hopefully hatching some more!

LOL. My next question was going to be where you got yours thinking you might have had some from my stock. That dark brown egg was a real surprise the first time I found one. It wasn't "Maran dark" but it was certainly alot darker than normal.

I just bought them from some people about 40 miles from me. Paid $50 for all of them 1 rooster 6 hens. Most of the hens are in molt right now. Do they look okay??

Pidgey, it is hard to tell from that particular picture what you really have, but the one front and center MAY have incorrect hackle markings. Can you get a close up of just that bird? The markings should be barred and not pencilled. The roos tail should be barred, not solid. Only the hen's should have solid black tail feathers. If you can get some more pictures, we can help you better.
