Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

That's what I said to Kathy... but she's all pullet... I actually haven't collected any eggs from the 20 hens that are mature enough to be laying since before Thanksgiving, actually early November.

We're having really short days here though, it literally will start getting dark around 4:15 in the afternoon.

Try adding cayenne pepper to their feed. It will increase their circulation and help with their core temperature. It's great for their health, regardless; but it should also help encourage them to start producing eggs. Many have had great success. It won't increase their best performance; just help them get to or maintain their best performance :)

I hear ya! It has been awfully slow around here, in the egg collection department, for sure.

One Del egg today, out of 8 hens. One BSL egg out of one BSL, and one Orp egg out of 4 girls. Dismal indeed. BUT if nature is saying, take a break, a will respect that. I would rather they had a nice long laying life than push it.

Nothing is laying here except the geese.

Beth...how do you want me to handle that one male that needs to be evaluated? The fields on the web site still don't work.

One of my 2 Delawares. She was hatched April 2010, but they are still laying for me now, all through Fall and Dec so far but it could be because I leave the white chicken coop light on till 10pm at night, to provide longer hours of light so they would lay.

I bought her from a feed store, I found out, they get their chicks from Privett Hatchery.

She was one of 6 chicks I bought for the very first time ever when I started my chicken hobby. I'm now hooked. She is very friendly, beautiful and consistently laying huge eggs for us.

I'm getting several eggs per day now. My 6 month old pullets have started to lay sporadically now too. I got 8 eggs the other day!!! I want to hatch some again

but I can't afford to raise a bunch of babies right now. Go figure...guess we'll be eating a LOT of eggs
