I think my lighter hen mite be older then the others, she is bigger and has been doing this squating thing and lays done, then gets up, then does it all over again

you guys think your "kids" are little stinkers you should see my boys try to take the feeder from me.
in hand, and under foot, that is what they are....are we sure they are even chickens? lol. they put me in mind of some geese I used to have, but cleaner and it does not hurt so much when they bite.
I will never regret telling my mom to get some of the white ones too. if I had knowen I'd love them this much I would have asked for a dozen. it's never ever borring, and blue moods are short lived

I'm baaaaaaack! Did anybody miss me? LOL Well, I know my brooder bunch did! I walked in the door to all kinds of noise!

I came home to a Dellie outside the brooder! (My brooders are in the heated attached garage) Not only that ... oh no .... she flew out and was over at the babies' brooder! Standing there, looking so innocent, peering into the rubbermaid tote of 10 new babies! Aaahhhh, I was aghast! "Git your butt home," I told her! I had to cover the 3 foot tall brooder with aviary netting. I knew this was coming. BUT ..... I didn't do it soon enough.

My son's fiance' was chick sitting for me. (We were gone to Iowa for Christmas celebrations over the weekend). She had just left for work, not 10 minutes before we drove into the driveway. She had just checked on them. Sneaky little devils, aren't they? Just like my kids used to do .... wait until there's nobody watchin' and then sneak out! HA ... I always caught them, too! None of that monkey business with this ol' broad!

Gone less than 48 hours, and how they have grown! I think Midge is even tryin' to catch up with them. For the past 5 days, she's been getting PolyViSol vitamins, since her feather growth appeared less than exemplary. It amazes me ... the difference is noteable! She was also getting extra protein snacks daily. She's growing!

Happy you're back, Kathy! My mailman, Mike, called me this morning, said he had a package that was ripped so they put duct tape over it. Last one you sent got ripped, though nothing was damaged. Must be something on the machinery between you and me that is ripping boxes! Thanks so much.

I bet you're happy to see your babies! I can't go anywhere because I have nightmares about leaving anyone in charge.

We will need updated pictures of your nutty crew, you know.

Just kidding-I missed you! That is scary about your escapee, my new brooder is 30" high, so I can get my stumpy short legs over the sides if I have to- well , I did put hardware cloth tops on, so hopefully Buckshot and crew won't escape so easily.

Cetawin- I hope your DH gets a roo to bond with - but how will he know at hatch???


Crazylady- just keep posting pics, so I know what to look for in teeners! Mine are all over everything in the brooder,too. I have to shake them off the feeders, pick them off the top of the waterer and off my arm all the time. I LOVE THESE BABIES!!!

Rustyswoman- you know, I thought the roo in the middle was a Del in motion and the markings were just blurred by the light or something - I guess I need to study pictures closer! The markings on mine keep changing as they grow, and I can almost start counting points on combs- I remember Speckledhen saying something about them getting another point or so later on, sometimes, so I am keeping a close eye on the ones that seem to only have 4 points at this point- maybe they will have good combs???? Is that true or did I dream it?

Cynthia, I know what you mean about having a hard time leaving someone else in charge. No one can take care of them like we will.
I went out of town this autumn and left both boys and father in charge of birds and came home to devestation.

Well, I may be on here too much, too, but it's FUN!!!

You know,some of these Dels really can think things through. They are still in the Rubbermaid Palace until it warms up more this afternoon, and I decided to make three little dishes of chopped egg for them. I put two down in one side, and of course the Riot Act swooped in. . . .all but one little sweetie, who eyed the other dish in my hand and calmly moved into the other section and had the dish all to herself for several minutes. . . . . I am no longer at all surprised that Fattie and Cannonball can use phones. I am merely wondering how long it will take mine to figure out the door locks and the computer.

I am not sure if I asked, but do you feed the chicks the whole egg or just the yolk?

I feed them the whole egg, either scrambled or hardboiled and chopped up fine, at room temperature. I do sprinkle it with grit. They go nuts.

I feed them the white and yolk and don't even use grit since it's very soft, but better safe than sorry. I used to buy parakeet grit for babies and sprinkle it on their feed (never free choice or they'd pig out on sand), just haven't lately. At 20 weeks old, my Del pullet, Gracie, is my youngest bird. Still waiting on her first egg.
