Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

L'il Bit has nice coloring; very good tail black! If I recall, besides her smaller size, she has some extra comb points, doesn't she, Scott? She really came out nice and Pepper is pretty darn handsome for a "cull". Seems a harsh word for such good-looking birds!

Scott,
I agree, I think you have nicer birds than the word "cull" implies. And your heathens look nice and round!

Cyn...."culls" or not we love 'em here! If only every rooster could be as good natured as Pepper turned out to be. Now, he doesn't want to be handled/loved on, but he will eat out of my hand, comes whenever he hears me, follows us around, etc. Never once has he been aggressive toward me or anyone (even strangers) and he is super protective of his girls while they are free ranging.

Pepper for sure has one too many comb points. I have never counted Lil' Bits to be perfectly honest.

Allie, the pullet from our "test hatch" seems to be pretty typey so far. Good leg color, good size and so far pretty good coloring.

As for the "heathens"....well, time will tell there. They are only 8 weeks old and WAY TOO early to tell. Does look like I have 5-6 roos though and we do have one more "little bitty one", named her Sweet Pea.

Thanks for getting us "addicted"!!!!

Scott

Love the name "Sweet Pea". May have some for you later in the winter, if you need them. Will be hatching some various breeds, including my Delawares. Isaac sounds very much like his half-brother. He's very sweet and comes when called. Even lets me pick him up when I need to.

Ok so I'm not the only on with out fuzzy butts. I'll be posting my kidos as soon as my mom uploads the pics, it always takes her a few days to get around to it, but I'm just happy she lets me use her $1200 camera.

nice birds Scott

glad you had a go trip Kathy

today my birds thought they would show off for my brother, by jump-flying to the top of the run and trying to hang on like parrots, they stoped as soon as I step out there

I think my Dels are bring out the crazy in my RIRs. I'm just glad it's a coverd run. it's also funny to yell at the dogs from the windoe cuz they are barking at the birds, then watch all the birds come running out. I've never had chickens come running at the sound of my vioce befor

I like it!

Well, the Monday night photo shoots are not as easy any more! Midge always has to cause a ruckus. Maybe another week or two and I will be for sure on the roos.
See in this first photo, Tootsie's crooked toe has returned. I am gonna try working on this again.

And, here is Midge, lookin' a mess, though thinks she's a real catch!

Still in the attached garage, they now have aviary netting over the 3 foot tall brooder, since one little smartie pants decided to, "fly the coop!" One day this week, they are moving outside. The big coop has electricity, and the remaining hatchery stock there will be gone this week.

Soooooooooooo cute! I love baby chicks! I really do. Mine turned eight weeks old today. They look like little miniatures of their parents

Now, if I'm thinking right here, I believe in pic 3, I see two roos. I cant see the other in it, and it pic two, I think I see two as well, though one of them has their head out of the shot, so who knows
smile.png
And sorry about Tootsie. Hopefully her/his little toe will straighten up!

So today was interesting. Rocky and Bologna tryed to dub Legs for me >.< Legs is my little 9 pointed Del cockerel. ANd actually, I looked at him today, And I think he has only seven. I want to separate him, but he would have to be in a cage, and I dont want that for him. They havent picked on it, at least
hu.gif
I feel bad, because its my fault. If I would have worked harder to build a winterized third coop, I could separate him

Good morning all! Kathyinmo- those are great pictures - Midge is adorable, and I hope you can get the little toe straightened out.

DH ended up working all night, but I will get my pics up soon - if what Delawaregirl sees as a roo is correct, then I think I only have about 5 or 6 pullets in my bunch -

What would you need for a winterized coop in Oklahoma? Besides something to keep the snow and winds out?

Mine are really enjoying the extra space, not only for play, but to eat and choose sleeping spots. I have three little feeders scattered around, and a big piece of untreated lumber to "roost" on.
UltraSuede took to that right away! I guess I know I am totally hooked if I went to the trouble to build a bigger brooder just for a few weeks - but Superchick ( still hoping he is a she) is still behind the others, and needs more time! Besides....hehehehe- I built it narrow enough to fit through the screen door so I can use it again, and the Rubbermaid Palace can be stored inside of it BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Gotta start that Blue Orp collection, you know.

Yard full o' rocks :

Ok....my turn

Here is my "group of 13 heathens" that were hatched from Cyn's Issac and his girls and my Pepper and Lil Bit

Here is Allie, the pullet I hatch from a "fertility test hatch" of Issac and the girls (I hatched 2 but one was a roo...he is now down in Acworth, Ga). She is 18 weeks old and really needs to be introduced to the "big girls" but I hate the thought of her getting picked on while the pecking order is established.

Here is Lil Bit (the original pullet I got from Cyn...not an APA std bird, but a real sweetheart)

Finally, here is Pepper, the original roo I got from Cyn. He too is not a "typey" bird, but he is MY buddy. He comes running anytime he hears my voice....and he is REALLY good with the girls too.
