Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Laney,
A bit west of Asheville- but at this point I think I will only have a surplus of roos- I may keep every pullet, as there appear to be only 7 at this point - but I will most certainly let you know!

I must be the giant amongst us! LOL No, I'm only 5' 5 1/2" .... not that tall! I do think that gravity has taken over, with age ... maybe I'm only 5' 5" now!

Off topic .... Lady Hawk made me think (the word Hawk) of the movie, "Black Hawk Down." Have you seen that movie? About our USA troops in Somolia .... Anyway, sadnes all around ... my son was there. Can't say more ...

Don't ya all love growing out these Dellie roos? It is so fun to see the changes! I have a couple short and stocky guys that are very broad! Then a couple really tall ones! Cool, watching the changes emerge.

Which would be preferred to breed ... a short stocky guy, or a tall well built guy? I guess ya would have to look at the other features as well, of course.

Update: I'm on day 13 with the Dellie and Suede incubation here! Gettin' closer! Christmas Eve babies!

LOL... we live about as far apart as you can in NC..... Hubby and I have a gift cert to the Green Mountain Lodge out there but we keep putting it off because of the distance etc. That and you know the gift cert never covers the whole expense.

There is a Show in Smithfield in February, I'm going to head down there (45minutes) and see if there are any Delawares for sale. Who knows I might get lucky?

Not as much going on for chickens on this side of the state as there is over there on yours.

Laney

Laney, yeah, NC is a wide, wide state- I went to the show in Morganton and there was not a Dellie to be seen, unless I somehow missed them- good luck!

Kathy- 5'5" still qualifies. . . .

I usually hang in the back round of this thread. I read it everyday but usually don't join the conversation. Today, I have to chime in and confess that I too am a vertically challanged Del lover. At 5ft2in tall I have to make my hubby do alot of the chicken chores because I can't reach the high places in the coops to get them clean.

I see a pattern here between a woman's height and love for the Delaware breed

Hmmm not a Delaware to be seen in Morgantown, which is big show town??? Perhaps I should actually enter Biden then... even if he gets all fidgety and is shown in a dog crate and doesn't hold too close to the standard as long as he doesn't have a DQ he would be a winner and show the breed right?

What do you all think?

Laney

I have until Mid Feb to get him used to being handled if you think I should.

joletabey - is Ultrasuede feathering slower than everyone else? Cyn told me (and Thor has proven it) that the boys seem to feather slower and etc than the girls.

kathyinmo - I have the movie and saw the premiere of it when we were stationed at Fort Bragg. DH was there until 3 days before that event and then he was back there immediately. I remember our last day Active Duty...Sept. 20, 2006, he and I went into the Special Forces Museum and I had one of rare moments of crying....the wife of one the Delta Operators that volunteered to secure the second black hawk site, had donated his Medal of Honor to the museum and it was on display with his picture and a plaque. I knew so many brave men like that...married to one of them...their courage touches me.

joletabey - as much as I would love to take a couple Ike boys I cannot at this time. We may be moving across country to Kentucky at the end of the school year....and I will have to re-home some of my birds before that trip. Of course, Thor, athena, Fattie, Cannonball, Severus and my favorites big girls Luna, Ruby, Speckles and several others will go with me.

Cetawin -
Well, Kentucky is not that far away, either - I would most certainly hold on to one for you!
And I can't tell if Ultrasuede seems slightly slower because he is he or he is an Orp. . . .

Laney,
Go for it - why not??? Biden is a pretty boy! I'll meet you there, and we can have lunch!!!

Popcornpuppy - Don't forget Scott - he claims to belong to the VCDL fold -

So, the rest of you? Does the theory hold true? Anyone over 5'. . . .shall we make it 6? 8?

Joanne? BTW how cold is up there these days? Wisconsin is NOT that far a drive - honest!

Crazy Lady, JessicaLynn, Mrs. BirdBrain, James A. . . . pardon mispellings and whoever I have forgotten. . . . .??? I know there are more people that have dropped in now and then-

There is another thought - you know they say dogs and their owners look alike. . . .Do we all look like Delawares?

Vertically challenged I am (Cyn can vouch for me).....I'm 5'9" on my best day.

My 14 year old son is just about to out grow me. He already wears a size 12 1/2 shoe....I struggle to wear 8's....oh well.

Vertically challenged and Dels do seem to be a common theme here....
