rustyswoman...you ask questions DH and I are asking ourselves everyday.
The plans being explored for moving the birds right now ...
1. Get lucky and find a stock trailer in response to my ad, about 12', lightweight that I can pull with my van, section off four areas, load the birds in two section and the ducks in a third, supplies in the fourth;
2. Build shipping crates the size of my small tractor (about 4' x 4' x 2') that I can put 5 - 6 birds in, find a trailer to load them into and go
3. Use a transportation company (the least favorite of the plans because I do not trust some unknown driver to care for my birds for a 3 - 4 day trip), it is also expensive (so far only 2 companies can be located here and the cheapest estimate for 30 birds, is $1800.00
4. Utilize a friend and his trailer but the cost of two way gas will about the same as transportation company costs
So, in a nutshell....we have no flipping idea at this moment but DH knows that I will not move without my MOST of my girls and boys. I have birds that I can leave behind (for the homeowners who would take great care of them) but I also have birds that I WILL NOT leave behind. My SLW, Speckles, I will diaper her and put her in the van along with Thor, Athena, Cannonball, Fattie, Luna and my Ruby....but they will not be left behind or be rehomed. My 2 Aussies go with, my NHR goes with, My EEs go with except Draco who may be spring dinner if his attitude does not change, 1 BO will not stay the other is a wench so she can stay if need be, my 2 SFs go and my Dominique goes with.
See my problem?
Kentucky is more "rolling hills" than mountains. It will be warmer in the summer (which does not appeal to me) but the thing that does appeal to me....I can buy more land with a home at 1/2 the cost of buying here. That would leave more money each month for gas to go visit Suede and Ike
In all honesty, we are trying hard to figure out a safe transportation method for them that will allow us to get to them for feeding and watering, not too stressful or confined for a 3 day drive (if we drive it predominately straight through) and protect them from the elements. It is an undertaking but we shall figure it out.
So, anyone with transportation ideas, thoughts etc etc please please let me know....all assistance in coming up with something is greatly appreciated.
Add to the list please....
