Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

I just wonder if the shock of the severe cold has something to do with it. I have 2 that I brought inside (the garage) a couple days ago. One Silkie, who is molting, (and the roos won't leave her alone) and distressed, and a splash Cochin that gets picked on and doesn't eat well with the group. They get along well together, in here. I am worried about the Silkie, though. She just has nooo energy. I wonder if she is older than I was told, when I got her.

I gave some higher protein feed (Gamebird), and whew ... does the poo stink! Had to get clean bedding and DE out, pronto! I do not want a stinking (attached) garage!

Oh, yeah, the game bird crumble really stinks up the poop!

Kira may have an egg issue. She laid an egg a few days ago and the shell was fine, so who knows. No actual symptoms except that she isnt laying even though she keeps going to the nest and she just seems to not feel well. Maxie and Phoebe are very thin and doing a mini-molt. Who knows what's going on with these ladies-anybody's guess.

Cynthia, I assume there is no egg stuck in her. . . .???? I tend to agree with Kathy that perhaps the cold has just worn them down- it sure does it to me! Hopefully they will feel better with these warmer days. It was beautiful today- but not much snow melted, darn it!

I know the weather here bouncing back and forth caused a few of my girls to act "off" for a week or so. They seem fine now. Different ages too so who knows. I am keeping sweet Livvie in my prayers as well as Maxie, Phoebe, Kira and Sweet ole Lexi.

Good morning, Dellie Lovers!

Cynthia, how are those girls this morning? We stayed well above freezing overnight- hope you had some of the same.

Cetawin- how long did it take for Cannonball to learn that? Did you use treats or just love? I think that is an incredible trick-

Haven't seen them yet today. Kira came out with the others, Tom said. She didn't leave any poop in the nest I left her in so maybe she got out later. If she's broody, she isn't acting like it other than nest-sitting all the time. Doesn't seem like she has an egg stuck.

Good morning, fellow Del-lovers!

Cynthia- Please let us know how your ladies are doing this morning. I sure hope they're all feeling better.

The weather can definitely be a drag.

And as you know, chickens are like people...we're all different and handle the weather in different ways.

Ever since it started warming up a few days ago, my birds trample me to get out the door in the mornings. I have to just open the door, stand back, and wait for the stampede to pass.

They're really enjoying their dust bathing again...I have a lean to in my front pasture that has a dirt floor in it...they've been going in there and really stirring it up.

Well, I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and enjoy the warmer temps.

Good morning all! I'm stuck at work today until the early afternoon.

I hope everyone's birds are keeping warm, it seems like cold spells and storms are covering the nation right now... we're expecting heavy rainfall soon, a tropical storm is blowing in this evening or tomorrow sometime. Which means lots of coop time for my girls, they hate getting their feathers wet!

Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend.

I was just out in the brooder coop ... those 5 Del roos, I just love 'em! They are always the first to greet me. And, of course, my favorite (Mr. Funky Feathers) was just so sweet. He follows me around like he's a puppy. Then, when I sit down, he is the first to jump up on my lap. He is really a cuddle-bug!

I looked closer at the girls' tails. I do see barring in one, maybe two. Does that grow out, or is it a fault? No matter, I don't plan to cull too early. If any girls don't make the grade, I will just put them in the layer pen, anyway.

The latest lot, hatched Christmas, are just growing like weeds! The largest two just happen to be banded ...one is Phoebe's, and one is Georgie's. I'm gonna look closer tonight, and see if I can decide how many males/females there are.

Good Morning My fellow Delaware Slaves...how's it going?

Joletabey - just love and attention. I am learning that Dellies are really ubber smart. She picked that up in just a few days really. They learned their names really quick (which is why Fattie is still called Fattie). Having only 2 of them in a small brooder batch may have contributed to it also...It is much easier giving attention to 8 than it is to 18 or more. They are 8 spoiled brats. Thor answers to his name and comes when I call him too.

Cyn, Cannonball is getting some tail black finally....there is one black feather in the mix now.
