Gee, Laney, I'm sorry. I've had more Delawares hatched with intestines outside their bodies than any other breed. And it isn't just me, obviously, so I wonder why that is. I think I've had 4-5 like that, including SuperChick.

Well my husband and I looked up hatching problems and found a website from the University of Maine that claims that anomalies like this are from too high a temp. Now that doesn't surprise me because I did have a temp spike about 3 days ago that went up to 102. I did also have the temp set at about 100.2 through the hatching as I have the GQF Hovabator and for some reason I have the worst time getting the temp exact. You can bet that next hatching that temp will be spot on.

Tonight we not only said goodbye to SC2, but also 4 Roosters who went to live elsewhere. With Biden's hormones running amok we just couldn't keep them anymore. So, Roo, Fritz, KFC and Skippy were posted on Craigs list and within 2 hours they were gone. Roo and Fritz the two Silver Phoenix went to one home, KFC and Skippy the two Standard White Cochin's went to another. Biden is the only Rooster now. I'll probably start collecting Delaware eggs in a few weeks to hatch my own clutch, once I am sure that they will be purebred.

You know, Laney, in my case, I don't think it was incubation. I always hatch a bunch of other breeds with my Dels and they never have this intestines-outside issue. It's just the Delawares.

Kathy, looks like you have a pullet with very nice hackle color and some nice cockerel choices.

What is the standard temp. for an incubator? I've seen some online that come preset at exactly 100 degrees. I've heard that this is the idea temp when setting eggs.

Laney I am sorry. I do not think it was the incubation either. Sometimes it just happens. Normally with incubation issues, there are multiple problems and so forth.


Okay Dellie Owned Humans .... I think we have found a new home I will call in the am and work out the details. We are going to rent for about 6 months and then decide to if we like area, the schools and etc or not, then possible buy it. I also negotiated the price down another $ 19K The lady who owns the home is a very very sweet lady. The barn already has enclosure for chickens which were there a several years ago. And, she was thinking of starting a flock of her own so she had all of the soil removed, the interior pressure cleaned and disinfected and new soil hauled in about 9 months ago.

She has also added another bath in the basement making it a 4 bdr, 3 1/2 ba. So...say a prayer all and hope this works out. It will be a ton of stress off my mind. Then the only left to do aside from pack is figure out which one of you can give me a couple thousand dollars for a couple of months to make the move even easier.

A fish pond/ wishing well! YAY! I love the huge pantry, too. It looks like a beautiful place! I love having a walk in basement. You will love that feature, I'll bet! All of it looks in great condition, doesn't it?

It sure does. She has done lots of upkeep and upgrading. The basement is the 4th bedroom, a bath and a laundry/utlity room. Keep the good thoughts up...I call her in about 6 hours or so.

Cetawin, it looks great! I love the pantry, the porch, the pond, the wood fencing-and it looks like it has good natural lighting in the LR- lots of room in the master -I hope all goes well with the phone call!

It looks like a real nice place for you. As to the thousands. . . . .wish I had them, I would send them your way, but. . . . .

Kathy- fourth picture down, the pullet (?I can't really see the head?) on the bottom.....I have one with hackle feathers like that. Does it look more laced than barred to you? Or striped? I am not sure how to describe it, wondering if you can. Mine, Lizzie, is the one pullet I have with heavy markings, otherwise they all have light hackle markings and potential good tail color - some black feathers and some black with white edges. Hoping they molt out OK... are yours molting? Your roos have some great tail feathers!

When you consider body type in a roo - if they are round and full breasted looking, does it matter if they are not the biggest overall? Weighing out all the factors makes me itch. I know that these little roo's markings may change some when they molt, but the combs and beaks aren't going to get better on two of them, and one of them is the biggest roo.
