Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

I just went back and checked my saved emails. Bythebook said their Dels are from mypetchicken.com

The ebay eggs I got were from freeiibeme. She hasn't had an auction since Oct. As my birds are growing out from her, the pullets look great, but the roos have too many comb points and poor wing carriage. They are a good size and have good makings and good personalities.

I keep my eye on ebay sellers and have made several inquries to them. If you want to know what any of the other sellers said to me in emails, let me know and I will be glad to pass that info on

My crew got time in the garden today as the sun peeked out for a bit. Poor babies have been inside their little coops for a week. The rain is moving back in tonight and will continue for probably another week, so their coops got a full clean out, disinfect and pine fresh goodness. I took some pics of them to share.

Thor came inside and attended the computer while browsing pictures of our new home...he and I discussed the areas in the pics where he could take his women and where he could not. He asked if Draco and Sirius were coming with us and I told him "No, I must find them new homes with another family". Thor said that was a good thing because he was tired of whipping their butts constantly.

Thor took on both Sirius and Draco, at the same time, for getting too close and attempting personal contact with 2 of his girls. They lost, Thor won and still has his 3 women. He also got to meet Draco's mother, Luna. Luna is a big splash Cochin...I think Thor liked her, I hope so because she will become Thor Woman #4.

I'm reading about the Ebay egg sellers here and I'm not sure what to post about the person I bought mine from. Out of 8+2, 6 were clear. Two died at or around day 18, one had to be culled for deformities and one seems to be a beautiful baby.

Now, here is my problem. I bought them during the worst, unexpected, cold snap in December. My heat went out on us, although I was able to keep the temps in the incubator stable. So, do I blame the lack of fertility of the 6 eggs on the seller or on the post office and freezing temps during shipping? I haven't even notified the seller how poorly things went because I'm not convinced it had anything to do with how they handled the eggs.

Sounds like a combination of everything. Cyn sent me a dozen in the heat of summer....it took an extra day to get here arrived on Friday (3 days), my broody refused them and I had to wait for my incubator to arrive on Monday to set them Monday night. I hatched 4 not her fault...it was events.

Shipped eggs get roughed up and it is a real crap shoot sometimes. If the eggs were well packed...you cannot really blame the seller....especially a small shipment like 6 eggs.

Lady,

That's what I thought. I didn't want to name someone under circumstances like that. Had I gotten replacement eggs or something from this person and had a similar turnout under better circumstances I might mention it. However, I think everything was against these eggs from the start really. This one chick is really going to be a winner though I can already tell. It is so sleepy all the time, but it is getting along great with my 2 weeks older White Java.

don't tell my family }TX or I'd be trying to move in with you

I hope the sun stays with you a while

I really don't know what my bird do when I'm not out there. But it seems like they spend most of there time in the coop. you can only see them from the bathroom windoe right now. when I get my other coops up it will be much easyer to spy on them from the house, mite even be able to see all but the Broody House from the living room.
The bigger these guys get, the happyer I am they are only sit with you buddys or lap birds, not on top of your head birds. I just don't think that would turn out too well.

Laney...with the monkeys and gorillas in the post offices sometimes, it is a miracle shipped eggs arrive and not crushed and broken. It is just a danged hard thing to do...ship them and hope they do not get scrambled. I would have been in little hawk heaven if all 12 of those eggs Cyn sent me hatched but...it worked it the way it was supposed to...now we are moving across the country in a couple of months and I can keep my small crew and some of my big girls ... had I added a dozen to the 30 already here and tried to move them and 11 ducks....my husband would beat me then divorce me and beat me again.

I could not blame him either.

the crazy lady ... you need to chat with my DH... before he joined the military he made custom saddles, bits and spurs and such.

email him and tell him his crazy wife told you to contact him re: custom saddles and such. [email protected] ask him about the work he did for Steven Segal

Thanks...I am tickled over finding the house and such a great owner to deal with. Just a sweetie. It is hard to deal with someone you have never 'met' and consider moving across country into a house you have never seen...but sometimes you just have to go with the gut feeling...it tells me and DH to go for it. What the heck right? I will only be 8 or so hours from Cyn's house....if my gut is wrong I can go live with Suede in his coop.

Good morning Dellie lovers-

Cetawin, you won't be that far from me, either- if your DH gives up on the bonding idea and you want an Ike son, I will probably still have roos. I posted this all earlier, but I LOVE your porch, pond, pantry and the fencing- and the good light in the lr. Seller is a sweetie to leave you the lawn mower! BTW, Penelope is beautiful- if you have posted her pic before, I guess I missed it!

Laney, I would most certainly give the seller the benefit of the doubt- that cold weather was pretty hard for everyone to deal with. I hope your little one perks up and is the best Del ever.

Crazy Lady- my Dels are shoulder birds, which is a little weird when they stick their tail feathers in my face, so look out- they could change their minds! What schools are you looking at?

Cynthia, we are VERY excited about more babies! DH agrees Ultrasuede needs his own women!

Think good thoughts for the six Dusty eggs (haha, dusty eggs! I'm easily amused). She is the better of the two blue hens I still have in body type, comb, etc. Her babies will be only half-siblings to your Ultrasuede so that works out better than if they were Smoky's kids. That Monday after the hatch should be good for you to pick up your babies. We'll ID them from the BBS Rocks one way or another.

Dusty eggs! Yes, that is one thing that got me all perked up- half sibs instead of full. And I remember seeing your BBS kids, but can't remember the difference between them, ( who could remember anything but that hunka hunka Suede?) -so it's nice to know Dusty is "the better" of the two- I just remember them all being beautiful. My DH is growing very fond of you - he says you are making it very easy to figure out what to get me for Valentine's Day!
