Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Kathy, isn't that just Murphys Law. The babies are growing up and flying the coop. Mine have all been integrated with the big girls. They were timid at first but not now. The stinkers actually came out of the coop tonight to find me. I had to lock the geese in and it was dark. They heard my voice and jumped out the open door and wanted to help.
I couldn't even see them at first, I had to shine the flashlight on them. I thought they stayed inside when it was dark?

Beth, have fun with the chicks tomorrow and good luck.

Cynthia, I am sorry about Olivia, I haven't had to go through that yet with any of my loved hens or roos and it must be very hard.

LadyHawk, my quads hurt. LOL and are you eating? Alot??

Laney,
Speaking of those crosses ... You know what I want to try ...
I am gonna put one of these lavender orpington project birds with a Del. I think I will get a Del looking bird with lavender in place of the black ... kinda like a Coronation Del. Anyway, I am gonna try it!

Germaine, It is so quiet now ... When I walk into the garage (when I get home from work), it is dark (no brooder lights) and quiet! All the babies are outside.

Well, it IS only temporary .... because I am hatching! Yep, I have a pip!

My first pip on these "special," eggs! I am on day 21 ... so I wish they would hurry up!

What else could I cross with my cull Delawares ... to make some neat birds?
Hmmm, neat birds or meat birds?

That was just for you Beth ....

Just kidding .... I'm gonna eat all my extra roos, and won't need to "make" any more freezer filler! I think I have a freezer full of meat out in the yard, in waiting!

Now on the topic of Delawares ahem Let me say this...Cheyenne got a love bite from, you will not believe it.... Cannonball! Cannonball decided that a freckle on Cheyenne's cheek should be tasted. I am in the livingroom and hear this loud exclamation of "Cannonball let go of me". I look out to see the chicken attached to DD's face, DD is dancing in circles trying to remove the chicken from her face and not hurt her and Thor is dancing a mad dance all over and making noises that could only mean "Okay I am getting upset...put my woman down...she is yelling...put her down" What did I do?

I busted out laughing and was absolutely useless in helping the child.

sooooooo Cannonball has now gotten a bad habit from her sister FATTTIE and is trying to taste everything.

Poor Thor was beside himself...he was not sure what to do...

"I cannot hurt the human she is hurting my girl my girl is hurting the human where is mom what do i do why is no one listening to me STOP IT both of you!" My poor baby boy stuck with those two Delaware females who are anything BUT docile hahahaha

These little stinkers (Delawares) do like to bite, don't they? Just kisses, I think!

Those little love nips hurt, too!

I have to treat them like little puppies, and hold/hang a shoestring from my hand for them to play with! Otherwise they keep untieing my boot laces. I'm always afraid I'm gonna step on one of them, cuz they are constantly underfoot!

Cetawin ... I do NOT want to hear about diet and proper nutrition ... period! I'm a big fat pig ... especially since I ate all the Christmas goodies I could get my hands and mouth on! Fat and sassy, is fine by me!

Laney, that is good to know... about the legs and barring. I didn't realize the two were related.

And, yes, the weather is odd. I'm not sweating it, though. I think it is all supposed to be bad right above me. (from about Knoxville north for us East Tennesseeans)

Ha, Ha, thanks, Kathy- I will still never be able to eat them......hope your weather passes FAST over all of us and doesn't dump as much as the weather people are threatening - Laney, it IS the coldest winter in NC isn't it?

Cynthia and Rwoman- thanks! I hope to have the time of my life in a GOOD way- DH keeps asking what I will do if they won't go back in. I told him I am hoping all my petting and treat giving will now pay off and they will let me catch them. Hopefully NOT by having them attach themselves to anything on my face! (Ceatwin, that was a hoot of a story!!!) I will let you all know how it goes!

TNchickenut- hope it misses you!!!!

I was reading up on color genetics in chickens and I learned that leg color in Delawares is related to the barring in the tails. That is, the gene that is responsible for removing the green color in the legs is responsible for placing the barring/tail black in the tails. So, I guess selecting for good leg color, lack of green is also selecting for good tail barring.

Laney

Oh that's a keeper fact thanks Laney! I am sure Cyn said that somewhere but I would never have found it and remembered.

Kathy-I think that cross would be gorgeous. What a fun project

LadyHawk-- Yes I over did it, but the sad fact is I didn't do that much! I am just jello I guess. I am going to work out that lactic acid in an hour or so though.
So where is the peanut butter, almonds, avocado... how are you going to put on any weight if you don't get some fat in there? What about the weight gainer protein powder? And no cardio for you! 86 lbs. You are going to just blow away.
Poor Cheyenne, that must have hurt bad! And Thor... oh I can picture him now and the expression on his face. (Yes they do have expressions don't they)

I know my dels well enough that I wear gloves outside when I work. I don't like to get picked, it hurts! Then I can beak tweak or catch them without worries and they think I am tough! Ha if they only knew.
