Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Keep an eye on them for sure...Poor Ike has gotten eaten up three or four times already by his heathen women. Poor Cyn has cleaned way too much blood off that sweet boy. They are curious mouthy things for sure.

No kidding? Hey, if he needs pictures or anything like that ... I have some he could use. Ohhh, I would love to pick his brain. Sounds like a great guy!

I will ask him if he needs pics tomorrow. If you want, PM me your info mailing and phone, and I will give it to him. I have already asked for a copy of the paper when he submits it.

Pictures! I got them taken finally. I am having most of the trouble with the girls and trying to decide if it is a columbian pattern or just a dark barring (and if that is bad or not)

I can see the definition, there is barring and it isn't solid on most of them. But should the girls have lighter hackles rather than dark? How much is too much in both the girls and roos?

Here goes Warning--lots of pics! I am sure some are of the same bird, just a different position but I lost track of who was where.

Germaine - I don't see the Columbian markings like my three have - yours just look beautifully dark and full to me! Wow!!! Unless the bird on the lower right in the last picture is a Del, then that one would confuse me a little. Yours all look nice and round, too! How old are they? I forget. . . .

Cetawin, what a NICE vet- I wish I had any pictures that would help, but I don't think I kept any of my little one. I can do a verbal description, though, if that is any help.

I have to write down this comb rub stuff in case I need it- one or two of my girls are getting a little pecky with me - gotta be ready. So he really said Dels are like that?

Really Beth? I tell you I am just so confused anymore. I look and can't judge them correctly! Oh my gosh, I have missed so much.

Laney--what are you putting in the new incubator? Dels? I am so sorry about your coop. That happened to me awhile ago so thanks for the reminder. I need to get those trailer tie downs and use them on the coops.

LadyHawk, what a great Vet, and how cool is that , he is writing a paper on the dwarf gene!

Cynthia, what can I say...poor Ike. But you have eggs right? Orps? What else?

Kathy, whats hatching!!!!!

Who did I miss?

Any other input on the Dels? Be honest. I know something is wrong in there, but I can't figure it out

I know this has been talked about somewhere in this long thread but I want to ask instead of digging through. At what age have most of your delawares started laying? I have some 12 weeks and I believe 15 weeks.I am thinking by the end of March I should have eggs from my older bunch.

Germaine, the problem is that your pics are all taken from above (which is so much easier, I know). We can't really see the body type, stance, wing carriage, comb points, etc. Seems like you do have a couple of nice ones in there, but I can't really say till I see them from the side. The pullet in #10 has really nice hackles.
Did you mean what eggs do I have in the bator? BRs, BBS Rocks, BBS Ameraucanas and one lone Wheaten or Blue Wheaten Aemraucana.

Thank you Cynthia,

I took the pics from the top because the hackles seem to be Columbian to me (am I just not understanding Columbian?)

Can you tell me if that is Columbian on them? That was going to be the first step in culling. I figured type, wing carriage, legs, comb all come after that and I have so many that I need to sell a few off.

I was hoping to find some hackles to let go of LOL!

Ohhh BBS Rocks and Ameracauna? Mmmmm I am going to wish a bunch of splash on you because I think they are the most beautiful colored birds...

I love my one splash girl, my Ameraucana, Snow. She's the sweetest thing, loves to be held.
None of yours seems to have a strong Columbian influence in the hackles. If you look at a Lt. Brahma or a Lt. Sussex, that is the Columbian look you do not want in a Delaware.

Thank you Cynthia, I honestly thought that what I was seeing wasn't good. I appreciate your help and expertise.

I have seen pictures of snow and she is beautiful. There must be a gene in the splashes that makes them so sweet. Mine will just talk and talk. She doesn't really like to be picked up but she's a chatter and I love it.
