Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Hey Dellie lovers!!! We have SUNSHINE in GA today!!!! Yea! I am so ready for spring!!

Kathy - What a funny link - still on the floor, laughing!!! That one made my day!!!

Tracey - I am so ready to be in the garden again - strawberries sound yummy!!!

Cynthia - So sorry to hear about your bad, bad girls - poor Ike!! I could come up there and let my doxie loose on your hens - I bet they would learn their lesson!!

Nicola and I are patiently and eagerly watching the development of the chickies....they are starting to get red color in the wattle area and Nicola thinks we might have 3 roosters - uh oh, but still to early to tell (I hope)

Hope everyone else is having a great day!

~Lisa~

I don't know, but they are really testing my patience! Even Gracie does it, the youngest one. If the weather holds, I'm going to turn the Dels loose and let Ike go after them on range, just enough to get some of them bred again. I have three folks to get eggs to in the next month, including you, Jeremy, then they may find themselves elsewhere. And they are really friendly, sweet hens, good layers, etc. Hate to see them go, but it's becoming too much work.

Lisa, I'm going to love seeing your wonderful photos of the Del babies as they develop. Wish I was as great a photographer as you are!

Cyn, I'm in the hen-picked boat now too, only with my Marans.

The rooster I had in with 3 girls was shredding them up so bad, I moved him out to the general population and put a very sweet boy in with the 3 girls. Overnight they had plucked his tail completely bald! So I put some rooster booster on him (OMG, the reaction the hens had to that stuff was hilarious!!) and that was the end of that. Or so I thought. This morning I went out, and one side of his neck was plucked clean!! Are the girls just not getting enough protein or something???

Shoot, I never thought of upsetting Ike if Suede got his girls- and that is really upsetting if Gracie is doing it, too! I am so sorry this is happening to all of you!

Tori, they get extra supplemental protein in the form of hardboiled eggs and canned salmon and mackerel every week, plus vitamin mineral supplements. Crazy maneating women! They have been penned up during this awful weather, but I think Delawares do much better if they can free range and get all that energy expended. I'll turn them out with Ike tomorrow and see if he survives, poor thing.

Long day and it's not over yet! Still have to take my daughter to TKD practice at 8pm! Chickies are doing fine! Was out all day working in the pasture.

I can candle tonight when I get back!

Will chat with you all about your days then!

Cyn, I don't know what to say!!!

Maybe I need to finally bust them out and let them play in the snow for a little while. That would settle them down! LOL! My pen of Marans look horrible now... they're all shredded.

I really wonder if it's boredom. But they seem to be looking for feathers to eat...

Oh those women are sooooo bad! I may just bring Thor up there and let him loose with them. One scream and pancaking from him and they will behave themselves. He does not thumb...he jumps on them and flattens them to the ground and screams at them.

Now I am curious, how do you actually AI a chicken? Do I want to know this? Do I need to know this?

Beth, that is a funny threat for a roo...tell them the next step will be ....

Her fees are usually reasonable.

The sun came out a bit ago and the rain stopped so everyone is outside. They are so happy. Thor danced for each of his girls when I put them in the garden with him, took them to the food dish and called them. It was so cute. when Thor danced for the girls, Athena just slowly turned and walked away but those two Dellies looked panicked and ran for their lives 40 feet away from him. hahahahaha

I agree Cyn...some breeds do not do well with confinement at all...I think the Dellies are one that are better suited to free-range but then again, Thor's wattles are HUGE and the Dellies do not mess with them since his pancaking of Fattie.
