Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

They are way beyond picking. They have bloodied that boy up several times, pulled his comb off his scalp and they are just plain wenches! Apparently, they go after him in just a couple minutes of seeing him after he has been healed up and put back.

I know I am so proud of him. I had to put Sirius in a dog crate for the night....he is in Cockerel Jail. He was going after Severus and Draco...he started to tag Thor but Thor saw him coming and turned around...Sirius met this:

Sirius made a sharp right and went somewhere else.

Hi all- I am a little stiff from all the work that has been going on in my garden lately. Sorry to all that still have snow on the ground, or extreme cold. I honestly am not trying to rub it in, I just wanted to share my good weather with you.

Mrs AK-BIRD BRAIN- In your case you might want to try some extra protien. If they are eatting the feathers, that is a protien defficency. I also know that Marans need a little extra. They are a heavy bird and sometimes heavier birds need a little extra. Is it still bad weather were you live? You might want to let them free range if you can. If not maybe a half a head of lettuce to give them something to do.(along with the protein) Scrambled eggs, catfood, worms, meat or whatever you have on hand. A meat will stay with them longer just to let you know. I hope that helps.

Cyn- I am so sorry for what is happening in your Dellie flock. I would hate to have to choose. I wish I had some words of wisdom for you, in return for all that you have given me. I do however want to tell you, there is a video on AI on youtube that is very interesting. The girl makes it look so easy! Good luck with Issac!

Urbanfarmboi- Iam sorry I forgot to answer your question. It is not a big garden. I am currently changing around the beds. 2 large beds about 10x 18each, 1 square bed 9x9, then I added a strawberry bed and a triangle shaped bed that I will be putting squash and zucchini in. I will post pictures of it when I get it all done. Right now it is still alot of weeds!

So, my strawberries went in this morning , about 50 of them. We are working on a hinged top to keep the chickens out. Then I need to finish weeding so I can start on my tomato rows. My seedings will be ready to trans plant soon. My dellie eggs are still doing great. Today is only day 4. I might just candle them sooner then the 7 days. Gosh I am so excited about these little boogers. Talk to you later.

I wonder if that is bordom or pecking order? Or both? Geesh. That would be hard to deal with. I'm glad I have never had that issue. My Dels are grounded right now due to a small case of frostbite. I'm keeping them in on the cold days and everyday is a cold day lately. Anywho... I throw in "rooster booster" (which is just corn, sunflower seed, wheat, ect ect feed) in their bedding... throw in treats like kale leaves and green beans broke into inch peices and even crickets. Anything to break their bordom. Hmmm... wonder why they are being so ugly? For all we know they are plotting a coup d'état! They may have had a meeting of the hens and all agreed that they will not be "done" anymore! lol

Ok. Now I'm getting silly. It's late.

I do not undertand them then for sure...he is a handsome dude and so good to them...always stays with them watching out for them. They are stupid women. But, Cyn knows if she needs to rehome him, I will drive to Georgia and get that boy....unlike Cyn, who is so nice...I will stew a girl for eating up one of my boys. I love my boys.

My dellies are right at 16 weeks now and the males are starting to get their hackle and saddle feathers in and it looks as if some of the smutting is dissapearing slowly, my ladies though are still so light very little tail black and very light stippling in the neck feathers heck one is completely white looks like a leghorn but haven't noticed white earlobes yet.

And yeah on the computer intelligence I don't have it either if it wasn't for my brainiac neighbor I would'nt even know what a computer cookie was much less how to get rid of them

I guess they got that name from being leftover, like cookie crumbs, huh?

Just posted the results of my candling over in incubating and hatching.

Cyn, I wish I had some words of wisdom to offer you. Just know that most folks are willing to wait a bit for eggs from you. So if you are having trouble, I am sure that most folks will understand. We are dealing with nature here, and nature doesn't always cooperate on our time table. If it did, the hatcheries wouldn't be able to get away with changing delivery dates by 4-6 weeks without folks complaining all the time. If you have to keep him separate until you can let them run in a few weeks....you have to do it.

What a day. Yesterday we finished fixing up the tall coop. It was good enough for the babies to go out in in on Sunday, but still needed some TLC to keep the wind out. Little bits of wind were getting in through gaps in the plastic. So we stapled up the plastic, put up strapping over the edges of the plastic etc.

Then I cleaned out the main coop and put down the lime. Now only the barn to go on that, but it's got about 16 inches of straw and dropped hay in it...UGH. We got about a 2 foot wide trench done in the barn before we gave up today. All goats and Chickens got their medicine today. I took Kathy's vet's advice, and we gave it on the back of their neck at the junction with their body. I'll stop the ivermectin at 3 weeks for the chickens provided we have the barn done by then!

Biden is taking his medicine just fine...of course I grab him by the legs and hang him upside down until he is unconscious, and then he wakes up in a football hold...medicine applied.

I would be sitting in a hot tub now, but I've got to scrub it. I got the first layer of chicken off of it when I moved the chickens out of the master bath, but not enough for me to bathe in it.

Laney, You have had one busy day! Go relax!

Cetawin, as always, I love the pictures!

Tacey, Yea, I feel really sorry for your sore body from working in the garden. (NOT) ....

I heard my local forecast, and it should be in the high 40s tomorrow here! YAY!!! (Snow, rain, and very cold the next day!)

My oldest Dellies are mini-molting, I guess. Feathers everywhere for the past week or so. They are really growing. Can you believe they are about 15 weeks old already! I can hardly get into their pen without being attacked. Peck and bite .... they just have to check out everything. Tomorrow they are going outside, for the first time. I have kept them warm in the breeder barn for long enough, haven't I. It otta be fun ... I'll have to take pictures.

Group # 2 Dellies are now nearing 8 weeks old, and they are tearing up the brooder ... they want OUT! I think I will let them out and about for awhile tomorrow, too.

Just want to say that feather eating is not always a protein deficiency. Some just do that, even with tons of extra protein. It's sort of like they're taking a vitamin, in a way. I have one hen who always plucks the rooster's saddle and hackle feathers and eats them. That is just the way Olivia is. Her protein level is the same as everyone else's, but she is a nagging woman. She doesn't eat on the wattles and comb, just plucks her man's feathers. And if she is facing one of the Ameraucanas in a nest, she'll pluck their beards if they let her. They get chopped hardboiled eggs, salmon, mackerel and/or tuna for extra protein, every couple weeks, they get kale and/or dark green lettuce, etc. And a few still pick up little feathers and eat them.

Morning all!!

Kathy....I'm here!! I just spent yesterday actually ENJOYING being unemployed (temporarily!!). I had my Del bunch out and played with the younger ones most of the day. Cleaned coops, brooder pens, built some new nest boxes, raked out the runs (thank goodness things are FINALLY drying out) and just generally enjoyed the sunshine.

My little del girls are really growing. They are 18 weeks old this Friday. Several are starting to get a little more "red faced". I still have one that is not going to be colored well at all. She has maybe 8-10 "dots" of black around her hackles....and I mean "dots"...like someone just barely touched her with a paint brush. The other 3 are looking pretty good. If I get them out again today I will take some new pix.

My attorney still has the paperwork (contract) for this job, but unless something radical happens I will be starting Mar 1

Supposed to be a bit nicer here today.....sunny and around 50F. I'll take it!!

Everyone have a great day
