Oh good heavens don't you dare send your avatar picture to that woman. sheesh there will be a riot in the mailbox for Nifty wanting this place shutdown. hahahahaha
<---whining tonight so I am running away now...off to a hot bath and some pain relievers, trying to bend over and pack stuff has about done me in today. I am find standing up but I tilt my head down and it is THROB THROB SHOOTING PAIN THROB
Cetawin, you shouldn't have that much pain at this point, should you? What does your dentist say?
Kathy- congrats on representing BYC- what a great thing to have happen! And the life of a supermarket broiler as compared to how most BYC'ers treat their babies is going to be a tremendous contrast. Maybe after the article goes up, we'll need to set a countdown to 100,000 members!
The Dellie note of the day- I went into the run yesterday afternoon in jeans instead of my normal cami pants and Luke went for my feet- it took several minutes for him to settle down and realize it was me. I think I am going to have to add to my chicken wardrobe and get him used to LISTENING rather than looking. I had to shove him with my foot several times. Lizzie's comb was all ripped up and bleeding- if the roos I have posted don't sell by Saturday, I am having them processed. I am so mad at two of them right now I think I COULD eat them. (are you proud of me Kathy?) AND I got egg #4 yesterday.
JamesA- your hens are beautiful! I would wait on your roos, too, though, since YOURS are being nice yet. My smallest roo is starting to catch up with the others, and they are 18 weeks old.
Beth...dang that Luke. I have noticed that some do not like change and get used to you wearing one thing or the other BUT that going after your feet is how Deville started his nonsense which led to his humiliating Lavender Bubble Bath in the presence of all his women. hehehehehe
I do not know if this makes a difference but I have always talked to my birds when I enter the room where they are, even before they could see me. From the time they were in the brooder in my bathroom, when I walked in I would say "Hello babies' and they would start peeping at me...hubby could walk in, shower or whatever and they never made a sound. hahahaha In their big coop, I say "Good Morning Ladies as I am walking to the door" and they are all waiting at the door when I open it. Maybe try talking to them in a consistent way before you go in and get the accustomed to knowing it is you before they see you? I don't know, just a thought. I know it works with Thor...that boy hears my voice and starts crowing inside the garage.
PS: Called the Dentist yesterday and the word was that I should expect pain for several days because of all the scraping he did and the fact it was an upper wisdome tooth, they are usually more painful than lower. He said if I was having throbbing pain on Monday to come in. So, he suggested I take a whole vicodin before bed. I did that last night and it has not been as terrible this morning...it still throbbing and hurting. Hopefully it will be gone through the weekend. I got stuff to do dang it.
Cetawin, I talk to them, but you know, I don't always say the same thing in the same tone of voice. I am going to try that- and maybe call out his name immediately!
Glad that tooth is doing a bit better- and glad you are charging up the camera!
You had asked to see pics of my sweet Buckshot that I want to keep in spite of the fact that he probably isn't up to snuff- here are some of him and old Lukie boy so you can compare. And, oh gosh, who is that beautiful blue roo that keeps sneaking in the pictures?
Buckshot:All the boys combs are scabby- they are starting to feel their oats:
Buckshot body shot:
Buckshot's tail:it looks wry., but I don't think it usually is:
Luke:sometimes his wing set looks a little less than horizontal, sometimes it looks perfect. He is always moving:
Luke in foreground, Buckshot behind:Someone took a big chunk out of the back of Luke's comb - it has a funny jag in it now:
This shows you that Ultrasuede isn't so "chicken" anymore- this is right at my feet:
And this is how we spent the sunny day- sunbathing- Buckshot is in the foreground.
Any comments from anyone are, as usual, appreciated.
Well, three hens in particular may be cursing me tonight, but I gave Isaac three more hens--Glenda and Delilah, Suede's daughters, and June, my chunky EE hen. Figured it was either take his away or give him more so they could "share the love". He went after Glenda with a vengeance, got her (right in front of Dutch's face at the fence), let her up, chased her again, got her and when he then chased her into the front area of Suede's coop and cornered her, I went in and literally picked him up off her and put him outside the door, then took Glenda out of his sight.
Needless to say, she may be a tad miffed at me, but now he has nine girls and hopefully, they won't all be bald headed. Young, vigorous Delaware males in their prime need lots of wimmins.
Beth, I agree that Luke is the better of the two, as far as combs and markings. Well, I rather like Buckshot's hackles a bit better. Can't tell, but who is chunkier?

Well, I hope that my Delaware hatch # 3 has a few more of them!
Currently, I have only 5 nearing POL, and 2 in with their 8 brothers! So far, I think my best looking girl is Phoebe's chick. She is just as sweet as they come, too!

YES, Beth, I am so proud of you! You will see how much better your own meat is, compared to store bought!
