Kathy, where did you get your smiley? L0L.

Cyn, take that rest if you need it-you do so much for us all, and we want you to take care of yourself- and thank you for keeping us updated on Cetawin-

Kathy, those BR's are magnificent- wow! *sigh* I wish I had more room. . .. . . it is so hard to build anything on a mountainside. I need level land.

Jeremy- good- baby pics!

Scott- that sounds like a good project. Hope it works-

First "urbanfarmboi" where did you get your eggs?
Second when do you retire your Dels. See last summer I drove 6hrs. to get some Dels. Nick and the 4 girls. My plan was to replace them after I got some new Dels which I now have. Six chicks from a Speckledhen hatch and some from this Alden, NY flock. The only thing is they are still laying pretty good. 4-6 eggs a day for 6 hens. Two are hatchery girls. So what to do? Do I wait for these chicks to get to laying age and then make the switch? These older girls will have been mine for a year in June and since I don't know how old they were when I bought them could be at least 2 in June. They are in fact very good layers and lay the largest eggs I get. They are seperated to themselves and I have posted and asked if single breed flocks lay better than mixed breed flocks.
Any suggestions?

rancher hicks, my eggs came from Cynthia (speckledhen), I was fortunate enough to be one of the last folks that she was able to send eggs too. Since she has separated her breeding Dells. However, there are many of us here on the Delaware thread (and some others who haven't succumbed to the Delaware thread madness...

) who have birds from Cyn's lines. It'll be quite some time before I can offer up hatching eggs but most other people's birds are now reaching POL, so you just might be able to find someone to ship you some!

Concerning the age of your birds, I too have 4 hatchery Dells that I've had for almost 2 years now, they're my best layers. I get 4 eggs from them everyday that are huge! So in this case I say, "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it!". If your girls are laying to your expectations then that's all that matters.

Kathy, thanks. I'm gonna go look at smileys now.

joletabey, I wish I had a picture of a Dell baby this morning, but unfortunately it's still just a pip...

I'll post some pictures later, I'm going to pick up a lemon tree that I found on craigslist right now. It's a little over 5' tall and the lady is selling it to me for $40!

Just got a call from Ladyhawk. They are finally in Idaho near Boise. She cracked another tooth on the opposite side and of course, can't take any strong painkillers unless they stop for the night. Omigosh, I wish this was already a dim memory for her! They drove through a white-out for about 20 miles, but now the sun is shining.

Jeremy, is it? I have 6 chicks in the broody from Specklehen so I'm good there. I also have a trio from the Alden, NY crew and if you'd like eggs they're yours for the cost of shipping. Pics are posted here somewhere. Will be ordering eggs from Oregon after the first.
Does anyone here band there birds? I'm considering it so I can keep better records. Does anyone here breeding Dels keep records? Do you use a store bought record book or did you make your own? Does anyone keep records on their computer?

Haven't followed all the posts but where is Ladyhawk going?
