Oh, I'm just getting started... L0L. I've contacted Jesse McDaniel and hopefully will be setting another dozen + of his gorgeous Del eggs with Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain's next week!

ETA: I forgot to tell you that I'm sorry to hear about your poor Buckshot!

It was hard enough losing the poor little deformed legs chick, I can't imagine losing a bird that I had raised and watch grow up.

I'm so sorry.

Beth - "you da (wo)man"!!!! I just can't bring myself to do it....that big, nasty, mean blue roo of mine would be great on the table I'm sure, just not sure I could do it. You definitely get my vote....more woman than I am man. Plus, whole chicken at Ingles is still pretty cheap, LOL

I thought I would be the same way. But, the first time my Buff Orp roo, Orville, flogged me, he was dinner. He kept doing it and it hurt like no other, so I penned him up without any girls for a week and fed him the good stuff and made dinner out of him.

Joletabey, I am sorry for your loss. It is always sad when we lose one of our babies!!

Cyn, I cant believe Ladyhawk has gone through so much trouble!! I send my sympathies as well as a quick word of advice... Its kind of odd, I know, but... I had someones chickens randomly appear in my barn one night and they kept coming back and ticking Heffner off big time. So, one night, I dressed up in a big white sheet and a large plumed hat and went into the dark barn and BAM!!!! all the lights on, me waving and jumping... It was pretty great. I'm glad there was not camera

They never came back. Of course, that may be something for her daughter to do. I jumped at them and had a broom, shoo-ing them. I havent seen them since, actually...

Jeremy, good luck on the hatch!! And all the new babies! I cant wait for my eggs to hatch on Tuesday

OK, I finally got some of these goobers to stand still long enough to take a photo. Most were blurs that had to be deleted.

Cyn... the first 3 photos (boy with black band on leg) is that pure white chick that hatched 9.5 weeks ago. I'm not thrilled with his comb, but I'll be waiting until all of these are 6 months old before making a decision. There's about 6 or 7 boys in the brooder at the moment.

Sorry... the flash washed them out a little bit...

I had some company over the last day or so and am just getting caught up with my reading.

I just wanted to give Beth a really big hug! I can't believe Buckshot is gone!!!! I'm devastated! I think most likely it was a defect in his heart and he just went to sleep and didn't wake up. The heat that we had probably was just too much for him.

I am sure that when LadyHawk hears he will be the first one added to her new memorial at the new farm.

Cyn please pass on to her that I am thinking of her and hoping that she feels better very soon!! If they are sending her to an oral surgeon they must have seen something on the xray. I know I have very complicated roots myself. The oral surgeon can give sedation that the regular dentist isn't licensed to give. They also study the jaw and surrounding nerves in a bit more detail. So while I normally would wonder about it, I have seen that lately Dentists are moving more and more toward the specialty system here in the south. (One to do root canals only, one to pull all the teeth, one to do cleanings and regular fillings etc)

Laney

Laney, Delgirl, Jeremy, thank you- I was still trying to include him in the head count last night and got all confused. Yesterday morning when I opened the coop, instead of happy birds trying to get out, I had 10 pairs of stink eye aimed at me. "One more of us has disappeared" It took a while for them to come out and warm up to me. . . .

Like someone said, it's always our favorites!

Delgirl, you are a HOOT!!!! I think Cetawin AND Cheyenne should dress up and try it- and take pictures so we can see it!!!! I am with Laney on the oral surgeon thing- I have curved roots and have had to go that route myself. Hope Cetawin is back with us soon!

Mrs. AK- boys 2 and 3 look like they will have really nice combs, and they are nice and chunky looking, too. That little girl is very feminine-----BTW, its' your pullet on the cover of Backyard Poutrly, right? Got my issue, the pics are great.

Kathy, yes, supporter, encourager!!! No one could EVER call you an enabler.

Jeremy, you are going to out-Del us all - you will have more than anyone, and we will all be getting ours from you in a few years!

Good morning the rest of you Dellie lovers!

Omigosh, what a visual! LOL. Hey, whatever works!

Tori, the second boy has the best comb and hackles of the bunch. Their legs need to be more of a true yellow, so that is something to check for, but is secondary to body type, plumage and comb. It's a bit early still to decide which will be your best. These came from the ones you got from an acquaintance, right?

BTW, I called Ladyhawk this morning. She's okay and hopes to check in here later today. After she punted the banty rooster about 8 ft, he hasn't returned, LOL, but I did tell her about Del girl's method of discouraging stray chickens.

They are, Cyn. I have no idea where my flock originated from, other than the grandfather of these babies. I'm going to have to do more work on these next season, try to bring the leg color in more. I am definitely leaning towards Boy #2, so it looks like I've learned something afterall!! LOL!

You guys are all such good teachers.

Joletabey, yes. *blush* Theblue Orp pullet on the cover is Walburga (I have no idea how she got her name!) and she's one of my big boy Bob's girls. Thank you...
