Tim, maybe you're wrong about your roos. I hope.

I don't mind so many roos. I expect they'll all get along ok. As long as I get the boys and Nick together early. They'll probably just lay around in their shorts or play cards and drink beer. I'm having nightmares already.

I was just thinking it's a good thing my DW doesn't get on this forum.

Well, a really good Delaware rooster will improve your lines. Isaac's fabulous qualities trumped some of a couple of my girls' shortcomings, like Kira and Phoebe's not so great combs. He produced some daughters with beautiful 5 pointers, that's for sure. Did my heart good to see his kids looking so fabulous. I went through 15 cockerels to get my Ike.

Well now I dont' really dislike any chickens 'cept maybe Silkies, which as you know I don't think are real chickens. I would take a decent RIR and will maybe get some from the right person. Gotta have some broodiness in the line. No roos though.

As for these Del roo chicks. I hope to keep them all for at least some breeding and hatching, with the hens I have. I expect more than one will have a decent comb. I don't expect any to leave here before next year. I don't seem to get the response that I'd hoped for in selling Del chicks. Otherwise I'd hatch in the winter. Dels are definitely an under appreciated breed. I didnt' see any at the auction I just went to either. Nor the show I went to this past fall. If I dont post on CL I may post around the state as well as local.

We moved the chicks into a larger brooder this weekend, you can see a few of my little Del cockerels in some of the pictures, they're growing so quickly. Out of the 5 chicks that I hatched from Cyn's eggs I think 3 are cockerels and 2 potentially may be pullets, it's still a little early to know for sure.

I am surprised to hear all this chat about roo heavy hatches. When I hatched my gang from Cynthia I think I actually had more females! ( Very close to 50/50, but more like 52/48 in favor of the girls.) My hatch from Pensylvania was the same, girl heavy. I had 5 females and 2 roos from that group. Maybe I just got lucky, or maybe Someone loves me

Both my own hatches that I selected my flock from were a bit roo-heavy. First one gave me six boys and two girls. Isaac's hatch gave me five pullets and nine cockerels.
