Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

My Dellie babies are roosting on everything that does not move.

Even me if I don't watch out. I laugh when I open their brooder. I usually have at least 6 dive bomb me looking for anything interesting. Nothing like a Dellie greeting party to make me smile. Gosh I love these guys.

Your husband always has women hanging all over him, stretching out their necks on him and snoozing...he is such a womanizer Cynthia...I do not see how you stayed married to that man....he has what? 25? 30 other women? And has them living there with you? It just ain't right I tell ya. I need to take some of those BIG women off his hands.

Did I about get our conversation right? I left out a lot of the nit picky griping at the birds but I got the general jest of it to share.

*snicker*

I am not sure about that breaking contract thing...never looked to be honest. ATT isn't doing jack...not with three houses on a private gravel road, it is unlikely they will do jack and Direct TV has nothing out here, they go through WildBlue who has notta. My choice is ATT dial up GAWD HELP ME or Hughesnet, barely better than dialup. *sigh*

I was just reading through some old threads, and came upon one of Cyn's. Someone asked at what age Dels usually start laying. Cyn's thread says Maxie and Phoebe laid their first eggs at 18 - 19 weeks old.

BTW: There are some very interesting old Delaware threads. Alot of education and advise I found. Janet is such a great mentor, isn't she?

recently I had a customer e-mail me about a cm chick she bought and it not being show and having problems. won't go into it.
But just so everyone knows. I DO NOT show Dels or any other breed. I do not have show Delawares. Pure as far as I know, but they are not show. If I ship you eggs or sell you chicks I make no guarantees of blue ribbon birds.
Can you understand my frustration?
If I ever was knowledgeable enough to recognize a good show Delaware and had one or some, it would cost you 1 million dollars.

No one can know if a chick will be show quality or pet quality, no matter how spectacular its lineage, Tim. Even if you start with perfect or near perfect parents, only a handful of the progeny ever are truly show quality.

You know, I asked a poultry judge if he'd ever sees any Delawares at shows. He said it was very rare to see them, and even more rare to see one who was truly spectacular. Janet Holtman's birds are probably the best stock in the country, though she had to take a hiatus from breeding them for a bit. Hope she can pick up the torch again soon! Even then, you all have seen some of Isaac's boys that were either lightly marked or too solidly marked in the hackles. That's just the nature of breeding, all the culls. Even the culls are handsome, though, IMO.

Cynthia, I agree, my bigger "columbian" boy was one handsome dude- bigger than the rest, chunky, had a good comb and had the best personality! Breeding is always a crap shoot, you can NEVER predict the details! But you have done a fantastic job getting us all started, and getting the breed out there! And I keep telling my DH that your DH naps with chickens, it's a normal thing, but he just shakes his head. . . . .

That phone conversation is one of the best laughs I have had all week! And Suede is perfect. Always. Forever. Even in retirement, he will be the perfect retired roo.

Countrychickengirl- glad you got the coop done! How is your little personal chick doing?

Ellen- that is the weird thing. I sit in the run, and they all swarm me to sit on my lap or my ankles- but in the coop- no roosting!!!

Kathy- you have to see how much the BBS girls have grown- I think they have more than doubled in size- DH just sits and laughs at the drama queens flitting around the run. I will try to get pics this weekend!
