Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Hey, Scott, my friend! SO glad you're back from "that place" you were forced to go.

So, how many of the BBS Rocks of yours have gone broody now? Can I expect that from Emily, Alice and Neela?

Cyn....your BBS girls are from Halo right?

If so, all but one of my BBS girls ( I have 2 blues and 2 blacks) have gone broody and all at the same time, uuggghhh. I'm wondering if its just a matter of time for the other one? I hope not really as it is REALLY beginning to get hot and I hate to think of one "just sitting" for 21 days in this stinkin' heat.

Guess you will probably have "the broody bunch" too when they grow out

Scott...building another coop is not grounds for a divorce HOWEVER irreconcible differences IS.

So just convince her how nice it will be to have another coop.

*cough sneeze sneeze* I hate colds.

On the Dellie front..my two Dellies are not liking this hot weather at all...they are open mouthed, even more than my cochin and Athena are. I misted them down a bit ago but they are not liking this weather.

They have found some shade to lie in and they seem to be enjoying that albeit they could care less than Thor is patrolling in the heat. Mean wenches! I misted Thor and gave him some cool fruit and put him in the shade with the girls and he is hanging out with them now.

When it got hot like this last year, I bought a few watermelons, cut them up in large chunks and froze them. Periodically brought out frozen pieces for them to munch on. They seemed to like it and with it being cold I think it helped to cool them down.

ANNOUNCEMENT !
I am in over my head!

I have too many chicks, and must sell alot of them. First of all, I have too many breeds. I have decided to downsize and focus only on 3 breeds. I am keeping a layers coop of miscellaneous girls (for colorful egg cartons), as well. I am going to sell off most everything, except my Delawares and Jersey Giants. I will also keep my Silkied Ameraucanas and Icelandics projects.

I have been so stupid, thinking I could handle all of these. I absolutely love every minute of it. I even enjoy cleaning coops and chore time! BUT, I just don't have time. I work outside 2 - 4 hours a day, and then go to work 3PM - 11PM. I don't sleep well, and rarely get to sleep before 4AM. I am working on exhaustion. If only I didn't have to have a job, I would be fine!

This is just a hobby, not a career. I love it, I really do, but must stop. Breeder pens will be closed. I can't do it.

I have ALOT of chicks of various ages and breeds for sale, (note: Sportsman is FULL and due this weekend and next), if any of you are interested. I put an ad on craigslist, and already have 8 inquiries. I hope to be able to move these out this week. PM me for more details, if you are interested ....

Well Kathy....you nut, the chickens are a FULL TIME JOB *shaking her by the shoulders* I have to watch myself because I know I could quickly find myself in your shoes which is why the incubator has not even been unpacked yet.

Scott, these spoiled birds last year get an entire watermelon cut in half....I put them in the fridge for a day or 2 and let them get real cold and cut it in half. Then I give them a half one day and the other half the next day. They love it and it does help cool them off. The Dels are not used to this heat....this is their first experience with it so they will get used to it, I am sure.

But every chicken I own, except Thor of course, is a treacherous thief! See here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=4232168#p4232168

Does this rooster have too much barring on his back? I'm just new to the Delaware's, and learning all I can.
Would love to start a hatchery project, but it's kinda hard when you can't have roosters... (darn)

Yard full o' rocks :

When it got hot like this last year, I bought a few watermelons, cut them up in large chunks and froze them...

Wow,
Not sure I feel for ya yet...

It was raining when I woke up at 5AM this morning. At 5:30, it stopped raining. I thought, "Yes, nice day today!"
Until I figured out the reason I didn't hear rain anymore. It turned to snow!

Weather: May snow sets Utah spring record

ugg... spring is coming... isn't it?

And one final post...

I still have 2 roos for sale, and want to know when they start to crow.
The only answer to this question 10 days ago was something like, "Um, mine aren't that loud. You should be fine."

Sure, tell that to my neighbors!

Can anyone give me a little better idea of when Delaware Roosters might start to crow? They're 11 weeks old today.
