I've hatched about 500 Dels so far this year. It has been pretty close to 40/60 male/female. From what I've read the males embryos are a little heartier and more likely to hatch. I'm wondering if this why we seem to have a higher ratio of males sometimes in shipped eggs. It will be interesting to see what my results will be for the birds I have been hatching that made it through my power outage and then the trip to my moms. I have quite a few Java's in there, so I sure hope they are not all boys.

ssssssssshhhhhhhh they are partridge silkies.

They are due to hatch tomorrow. Hey how can you sex those little buggers? hahahaha I want to grab all girls from her. LOL

On the Dellie front. It seems that I may have a problem with Fattie.

She has taken to trying to hide outside at bedtime. I had to climb a tree to get her butt down last night (because Thor could not get up there himself...man he was ticked at her). Thor was beside himself and would not go inside and I could not figure out the problem until I started my head/girl count. So, I followed the boy back to where he was pitching a fit and there she was. Silly bird. Danged lucky I can climb trees well and weigh so little because she got way up there in those small branches. Nutty bird.

Cetawin-I would NOT want to have to climb a tree to get a chicken. You know, I think I saw some blue smoke on the horizon last night- were there a few naughty words involved in the rescue? Like stewpot -or broiled- or grilled chicken? She is an adventuress, for sure! Poor Thor must have been out of his mind, fretting.

Partridge silkies are beautiful- I saw some at a show- your DH will love them!

Kathy, that angel smiley does come in handy!!!!

Being a "vertically challenged" individual myself, I love this quote;

"How long should a man's legs be? Long enough to touch the ground."
J.D. Salinger

Probably doesn't help answer your question, but brought a smile to some of your faces...

I don't know the answer, but I do have a couple grow-outs that have too long legs. They just look too long to me, anyway.
