Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Noncentzter- I honestly cannot tell what you have there- is there any indication of hackle markings? If the one is getting tail black, it's possible- is there any way you can post larger pictures?

Kathy- #2 has certainly got a different comb- hope you figure out what is going on-

But a comb like that would make Joanne in Wisconsin VERY happy!

Lizzie spent yesterday in with the other Dels. She stayed to herself, no one seemed to pick on her, but no one was chumming up, either. I came home from a wedding rehearsal at dusk, and when I went to lock them up, the rest of them were all stuffed in their nesting box per usual, and she was perched on the edge of the pop door- she ran across the coop, down the big ramp at the human door with the most pathetic look on her face, telling me to pick her up and take her to the porch. I tried putting her back in the coop and she kept coming out into the dark after me, so I gave in. She slept on the porch. I took her back out this morning. The boys gave her a little hassle, the girls are ignoring her- do I just get hard hearted and make her stay out there until it settle down? Will the rest eventually take her back into the flock? I need some Delaware chicken psychology here-

Here she is this morning-

Beth,
I think it will just take a little time. If they are all accepting her then I would just go ahead and leave her with them, even at night. I would think that after a couple nights she would be reprogramed.

Thanks, Kathy- I just edited to add a picture of her above. They are chasing her a little bit, but no one is downright attacking her, so I guess I need to get tough!

I'm a wuss. . .

I think she looks good, too- and it DID take forever, but she can run and jump. She still sits a little oddly, but that's OK. These girls (and Luke, too) are just SO delightful, Cynthia. Give Isaac his due- he sure has given his best to these kids!

Check out Ultrasuede's picture and the update on his harem, including Suede's daughters Silk and Satin on the Orp thread. Also, Ultrasuede on Pics and Stories. I got my best picture of him yet.

Shelleyb - Now why does it not surprise me that the Dellie women do not like him much? They are a mess aren't they?

Beth - she looks so good. That Ultrasuede does look like his Daddy somewhat...his eyes are the normal dark but you can see Suede in him no doubt. Handsome boy. I want him.

WHY on earth did I guess you would say that???

:gig:gig I guess I could leave him to you in my will, but you are way too good with a gun - just kidding!!!!

Update on Lizzie- she is still sort of wondering around alone looking a bit forlorn, but I am going to overload them with treats today and see if I fuss over them all with her there if that helps any.

Thank you, Kathy- I am really pleased with them, THANK YOU!

I moved Lizzie out for a break, everyone started picking on her, including Ultrasuede, who dragged her around by the comb till I swatted him.....I swear, they are like kids - the minute you brag on them they do something bratty. She was panting rather heavily, and her little heart was thudding - she tried to hide under me. She was getting wobbly, too. If I have to I will section her off an area of her own and find her a little friend somewhere- maybe I am going about this all wrong, but sneaking her in the coop at night might not work, since they all pile up in the one nest box, and she would not be included in the pile.

Oh, ahem, note I finally got it figured out, and Eleanor is my avatar.
