Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Just came home from work and checked the eggs. Two are rocking a little. Humidity still just 59% Anyone have ideas on getting the humidity up where it should be. I would just hate to hatch then shrink wrap my little Dellies. I have 2 sponges wet and the wells full. Is it ok to open to add another sponge?

I hatch at 60 - 65%. If that's as high as you can get it, you should still be ok.

You could take a washcloth and cut it up. Wet a piece and set it in the bator. It may take only one small piece, or you can always add another. Wynette has a good trick too .... she uses sanitary pads, and wets them.

The forecast for here is 110 today again and 110 tomorrow and 110 Sunday I am worried that I'm going to have some losses even with spraying water and frozen gallons of water and fans....I quess I'm going to find out who can stand the heat watch the news for fires that will be next....just got back from riding it is a balmy 95 out there right now

It seems that it starts with you (west coast), and then moves this way, and then on to the east coast.

Good luck with your flock, and I sure hope there are no new fires from all this!

Kathy,
Just to note .... personally, I prefer too low humidity rather than too high. If the humidity is too high the chicks get sticky. Then they can not move around in the shell. I have had pips when they are still in the incubator (at 34%), before moving into the hatcher. I did quickly move them, and they have all hatched out just fine. Maybe I have just been lucky with that, I dunno. But, I have learned that I do not like the humidity too high. I have had pips (when too high) and then they die without getting out. I believe that is because they were soooo sticky.

Yeesh, more heat? It's been a scorcher already here between the rivers, and we have August to suffer through yet! I came inside the house the other day and automatically checked the temperature; it was 84 inside and felt like heaven compared to the outside.

I agree: no more heat losses!

Thanks Kathy, I will aim for 60-65% and not worry too much if I cant get it any higher. I can't wait to see what the next 2 days will bring. Pics coming if successful!

Now 3 are rocking and cheeping.....no pips yet. The wait is on.
