Hey Melissa!
And just to toss in my two cents worth here, YES! Build it as big as your DH will allow. In the category of "I wish I had known this before I started", here's a nickel's worth of free advice. When you're drawing out your plans, try to figure dimensions in full sheets of plywood. It's really a bugger boo to need only a quarter of a sheet and you have to buy a full sheet anyhow. Example: It's easier and more cost effective, with less waste of materials to build an 8' x 8' coop, than it is to build a 6' x 6' coop. Get the idea?
I'm in the process of trying to convince Denny that we need to build three small (5 bird size) coops so that each of my other boys can have their own coop and small flock of girls to keep them happy. They're all such sweet guys. They deserve to have flocks of their own, in coops of their own! With their own little covered runs and everything! But DH is worried about making this place look like Toonerville or something.
*sigh* Yup! Definitely wish I had known then what I know now. I would have built a ginormous coop that I could divide up in the first place! Live and learn, eh?
