Honestly .... I was VERY worried! I thought he was sick or something. I picked him up and checked him over. I was beside myself with worry!

I didn't know what to do! By afternoon, I was shocked at the change! I am so glad he is acting himself now! I am going out to put them to bed, and I wanna see if he is the last one in tonight.

What a good roo he is, Kathy- loving his own girls so much he can't stand being without them. I am glad he snapped out of it - I love the pictures- it looks like he knows his business!

My Light Sussex mama is still looking pale. She seems to be eating, but I worry she doesn't eat enough, but feeds her chicks instead. Her comb is still pale. I am feeding her extra protein, boiled eggs, salmon, blueberries, wheat germ oil. I dunno .... She kept pushing one chick away. Finally I took the chick inside. Come to find out, it was blind. I had to cull it. I hate doing that.

This up and coming roo has been named Oliver ...

And this one has been named Alexander ...

Here he is with the girls (which is very unusual, because they are usually with Oliver)...

Alexander is the playboy type; all over the yard checking out everything. Oliver usually stays with the 5 young pullets he was raised with, and they follow him. They are both good boys, I believe.

I am going to watch him...it was the first time he met the BIG boy, Severus. That may have had something to do with his behavior. Severus was walking all around their playpen, crowing and dancing, flaring at Spike etc etc. Poor little man.

Cannonball was so happy to see her Daddy. I picked him up and we got home to find her running towards the van. She was bee lining for me until he stepped out and she did a 90 degree and jumped on his boots, grabbed his pant leg and tugged then screamed at him.

She is such a little hussy!

Kathy, I just love these newest pictures of your Dels! They all look so content and healthy, roaming all over your place! And just look at all of that lovely green grass to munch on!! Lucky birds you have there! Very lucky indeed!

Everything here has gone pretty darn brown and seared by the summer heat. We won't see much in the way of the wild grasses being green again until late September. And Denny won't let the flock range on the lawn that he just planted as they're hellbent on eating all of it!

I swear, if the dog fails one more time to keep the chickens out of there, he's FIRED!

Glad to hear that Jacob has shaken off his case of the "Missin' My Ladies" blues! It's still not too late to let him have a few of his favorites though, is it? Even just two or three might make all the difference to him in the days and months to come.

The other d'uccle boys are all here acting fine and normal, so I hope Mr Spike is fine. Maybe he was seeing his little chicken life flash before his little chicken eyes checking out the rooster. Sure you don't want another pair to give yourself a backup rooster and an extra girl for the harem? LOL

The blue cochin roo has started chasing the girls so off he went to the rooster pen. He is the biggest boy in there but by far not the top roo. I am going to take him to a local swap on August 7th or 21st and see if I can sell him. I think I have the big blue barred boy sold so I might keep a silver laced rooster too.

Ok, so...here's another question. How do you sex your Dellies? I've got three babies that are about 2 months old. I thought I had two little cockerels and a hen, because one was noticeably smaller, but now "she's" caught up leaving one that is considerably larger than the other two. The bigger one is also more stand-offish, both with me and the other two, while the other two stick together at all times and are much friendlier with me.

Thinking maybe I have a cockerel and two pullets. Too much to hope for?

Sorry for all the questions all the time! I just can't get over how much I love messing with and learning about these birds.

Poppycock! My Lacey remembered how much she loved my mom, and displayed that affection when she came back to visit more than a year after her last visit!
