Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

I'm with ya on the Rocks....a few of the BR girls I have growing out right now look like 1/2 a football. Totally different shape than I'm used to. The cockerels are quite unique too with their very fine line barring. My Columbians (esp the cockerels) are getting BIG. They have the same temperment as the Dels...they see me and just coming running, nipping at shoes, some like to be held, some just like a good scratch, but friendlier than the BRs for sure.

I think long term, I will probably be sticking to raising just Rocks in a few different varieties/colors.

As for incubation....as soon as the boys and girls are "ready", I'll be back at it

Well, you know Rocks are my favorite breed, especially the barred and blues. Dels are great, but those are the worst attention hounds on the planet, about as bad as my Ameraucana girls. I have 9 Rock girls from going on five years down to two weeks old, but Ivy will be passing on shortly and Lexie may not be far behind her. The Rocks and Dels are fabulous layers; every day there are Rocks and Dels in the nests.

Cyn....I'm sorry about Ivy and Lexie! You have just had the absolute worst luck with some of your girls this year! Will be praying that 2011 will be a much calmer, more enjoyable year for you and the chooks! You are certainly due for some "really good things"....

Thanks, my friend. Today, I have no energy--between the economy, vehicles that need repair, recent draining of savings acct to pay for well pump, too many broodies with chicks that must be rehomed, dying hens, the brutal heat, etc, etc, I feel like curling up and sucking my thumb. Think I'll take a long nap.
