Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

My vote is two little roos also- I have a little Del chick just over 4 weeks old, and the comb is not nearly as big or red as your little boys.

I hope you are not too disappointed.

Jared, they are good dual purpose birds- look at my avatar - that is one of my Del girls. And they are SUPER friendly, want to be around you birds. My little Emma, the chick mentioned above, sits on my shoulder, a couple of the hens are lap sitters. My roo is a good boy, after having had his "teenage" moments, and I can't imagine being without them.

Thank you for all the feedbacks. I was hoping for 2 pullets. I will going back to the farm where I get it from to trade it for 2 pullets. I hate to separate from them, I have them since day 3. My son and I will miss them, we sit with them in the backyard every afternoon. But I cannot keep rooster because I am in the city limit.
Thank you again for all the responses.

My first Delawares were hatched around Halloween. My coops are not insulated. I have not had an adult Delaware thru the winter, so I am not sure on the frostbite. Seems like there is someone else from up north that had some Dels, but now I can't remember who it was.

Were you maybe thinking of Germaine [a.k.a. Rustyswoman] in Star, Idaho? That's not all that far from yours truly you know. About a 4 hour drive tops!

Amy, If I were only 4 hours away from you and Germaine, I would be visiting you both ! ! !

I took about a gazillion pictures today, but it was so darn hot out .... they all had their wings out to cool themselves ..... which makes for not the best pictures. Got good pictures of the fatties though (that's what DH calls the meaties)...

Tomorrow they will be processed.

Germaine is from Idaho, JoAnn is from Wisconsin, Shelleyb is in Michigan, Rancher is in New York- I think there are more northern people with them, but that is all I can come up with on one cup of coffee.
If you can keep a little warmth in your coop via a light bulb, I should think they would do OK. I kept a light in my 4 x 8 at night over the winter and my Dels were fine.

Kathy, are you going to do the meaties again?

The meaties, yesterday. I am just back from taking them to be processed, and will pick up my meat later today. YAY! Will I do it again ..... hmmm, probably. It was not nearly as bad as I expected. I raised them in the absolute hottest weather ever, and was lucky enough to not even lose one. I think the important thing is shade. I had 2 little portable pens (each one 8' x 8'), and I kept moving them around. I used one, and then the other. One would have been plenty (for 40). They are 9 weeks old. Not bad at all. Our kids all want to fill their freezers, so I probably will do it again, for them. Hmmmm, maybe that would make a nice Christmas gift.

This was in my yard yesterday. I like the way the Del boys tend to stay on the perimeter, (watching for predators?) I just think it is neat. Oh yea .... they all dance, by the way.... Honestly, I love these Delaware roos ....
