These are photos of my Roo - I was wondering if I could get some opinions on him. He is 5 months old and already breeding my 5 month old girls. I have been checking the eggs and most are fertile. I had 12 Roosters and he was the meatiest and heaviest at 12 weeks old. At that point I separated him from the rest of the Roo's and put him with the girls. Just curious to see if others think he meets the standards.

Appreciate any opinions. Good or bad!
Thanks,
Belinda

Hi "Lotsa" How are you? How is your weather? We finally got hot here! Well, aI was wondering who "Steve" was, that you reffered to in the above post? I'm sorry if you already posted it. I haven't been on in a while. Thank you!

Steve Ledbetter has a farm style flock - my pullets are very close to lay and the Roosters are very nice and big most of the birds have very yellow legs and not much "Colombian" look to any of them the roos have some smuttiness on their backs but all Dellies need some work. Since I don't think I'll be showing my Dellies I was interested in finding a breeder who was using them for meat and eggs...so far I'm happy with them way better than any of my others but those came from McMurray and Cackle the McMurray ones are laying now quite well and they look like Dellies just with some of that "Colombian" blood in them not surprising...out of almost 50 chicks I hatched there are about 5 nice hens and 2-3 good roos and my hatch was more pullets than roos too

5 months!?

Well, they are now 5 1/2 months. They were all born on 3/2/10. Out of my 5 hens I am getting 5 eggs a day most days. Once in a while only 4 though!. Nice big light/medium brown eggs. I am very happy with my Delawares and think I picked the right birds for me. This is my first time raising chickens and I was a little nervous but they are all so sweet. My Roo is not aggressive at all with me or his girls.

Wow Belinda! Nice job for a first timer!!

Where did you get your eggs from if you don't mind my asking? Beautiful birds. Are they good and friendly for ya? How about the roo? Does he come when you call him? Does he like to snuggle up? Your girls are quite pretty. I'd love to see more pictures of them too!

Oh, and by the way......

Belinda, another Dellie lover! YAY! That is a pretty well developed roo for 5 months- but honestly, the camera angle makes it a little hard to tell about his conformation- can you get some side and front views that are more level? AND I know how hard that is with Dellies- they are all over you with their faces in the camera-That last shot of your roo makes his tail barring look nice- and it looks like he hasn't got smut in the wrong places and he looks like he has some depth, but it is hard for me to tell his wing set and tail angle in those pics.

On the Alexander vs Oliver disucssion (geez sounds like some kind of Chicken Eclipse discussion
lol.png
) I like Oliver better. From the stand point of the breed used to be "the broiler" before the CRX was created Id hold onto him and he'd be my choice stud. They are pretty much equal othewise except for size and using that logic is how I'd seperate them. Trying to decide between 2 VERY nice Roos like that is a very good problem (albeit a not fair problem for the rest of us!!!) to have as a breeder.

And Belinda those are some impressive Dels you have....very nice!
