What Cynthia said is very true- they change a LOT - the longer you can wait the better. And stand-offish doesn't necessarily mean he will turn out a bad roo- he just might be standing on his dignity!

We are working on improving winter quarters. We are debating whether roosters with large combs will need to be in a special "warm" room this winter. We are concerned that a power outage would leave them unacclimated to the cold,

I cannot have Delaware or other large combed roosters until we get the winter quarters issue resolved.

It just isn't part of the Domestic Animal Contract for me to keep animals that I cannot keep comfortable.

It is hard to go wrong with "true" Delawares though. Good Luck!

I am new to this thread and am interested in buying some pure bred non hatchery stock in Ohio. I already have a bunch of Delaware chickens but I am looking for new genetics for my flock. If anyone has any in eastern Ohio please let me know. I am interested in adults, chicks, and eggs.

People always seem to comment on Orp butts... what about Dell butts though?!

(I cleaned out the brooder... they were more interested in the dirty bedding then their fresh tray of food...)
