Cyn....Maxie looks like my Sugar. I could ALMOST pass Sugar off as a white rock!! She has just a "touch" of color in her tail and wings...but thats it

She is a good mama...and broody again

Not one of my Delawares has ever gone broody.

This is twice in the first year for her....uuuugghhhh

She is sitting on 13 Del and Del x rock eggs right now

Since she is so faintly colored, I am going to breed her to a Columbian rock male in order to introduce a new bloodline into my CRs....since there are so few folks in the US who have them, I gotta get a little creative

Well, I think Ike would put some color there with Maxie, so go for it.

*sigh* I just wish I knew what egg Emma popped out of- I keep looking at her to see if she reminds me of any of the hens, and sometimes she acts like Lizzie and sometimes she gets a look about her that makes me think Cora, but who knows?

Ok here are the 14 week old Delaware chicks that Sand Hill Preservation sent me.

I have 8 out of 24 that look like this and I waited 10 months for MUTTS.

It's a good thing they taste like chicken.

Well, I guess it goes to show that even Sandhill is having trouble breeding out that Columbian influence. Bassleg, I am sorry you got any at all. Are they by any chance mostly roos? I am wondering because I had two roos out of 6 and one pullet out of 8 that showed that tendency. Wondering if it shows up in roos more than pullets.

I would wait awhile and see what their shape is. I have heard that Sandhill has good "size," on their birds. ???

Yard full of rocks........ IF you have some chicks you want to find homes for we have been looking for some Delawares, the lady we usually get our chickens from is having trouble hatching out delawares and we have been waiting quite a while. We would like to get a few before the weather gets cold. Let me know, Thanks.
