Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Is anyone else's delawares black? Mine are so dirty right now, it's downright embarassing! I know that there is supposed to be a white chicken under there somewhere

My rooster, Jacob, will eat of my hand. I have not had an aggressive Delaware. My Barred Rocks are not aggressive either. I think hatchery stock has been known to be aggressive, as I have read stories, but have no experience in. I raised 8 RIR roosters together, and none of them were aggressive either. I dunno, but I can say, my Delawares are the friendliest of all my breeds ...... both sexes are.

I recently had a little four year old over to see the birds and the Dels were the only ones to come and eat out of his hand. Then they all jumped on him and tickled him til he cried.

Not really but It would not surprise me if they had.

Love my Delawares

That is a good thing for them to know ..... certainly is the rule around here, too! If any one of them even think about not being nice, I would have them in the crock pot right quickly!

NO MEAN ROOSTERS ALLOWED HERE!

ACTUALLY I THOUGHT SHE WAS CHECKING TO SEE IF THE OTHER HAD LAID AN EGG YET. THE CAPTION SHOULD BE:

"NOPE NOTHING YET, PUSH HARDER, MAYBE IT'LL POP OUT! "

or " HURRY UP MARGRET, I REALLY GOTTA GET IN THERE AND LAY THIS THING!"

or "YOU BETTER GET YOUR HEAD OUTTA THERE OR YOUR GONNA GET THIS THING IN THE BEAK"

or "GOOD GARDEN O' PEAS GIRL ARE YOU NOSEY OR WHAT?"

Aggressively friendly - yes!
My Delaware rooster is way more friendly and docile than my Australorp hens. But I wouldn't want him to mistake me for a predator, or a threat to his hens... he maintains CONSTANT VIGILANCE!

I should say, though, that he was the best out of six Del roos we started with. The rest are delicious. But none of them were ever aggressive toward us.

We had to doctor the entire flock today, and I was a little worried he'd get shirty about us picking up his hens. But even when they squawked, he never came at us - just watched closely with evident concern! And he let us pick him up and doctor his comb, and then just hung around us like he wanted more. What a good boy!

Handsome boy you got there!

Rexx (my Del roo) is the only bird in the flock who does not bite my fingers when I feed them tortillas (their favorite treat, it's like crack or something). In fact he hardly gets any at all, because the girls push him aside, and even when he does get a piece he just drops it so the girls can have it.
