Jeremy, isn't that just like a Del? Gotta get some attention from someone, somehow!

Bassleg, that is a great picture. You have some really big girls in there!

I hate folks who post pics of green grass while we're here in the NE are fighting to keep our girls from freezing there butts off.

Good lord mercy, was it cold this morning, -13 and they still had school. Help me Jesus!

Now I logged in to ask a "what should I do question"

I have a broody in a bin that hatched out two chicks. They got out of the nest and due to the cold died, they couldn't get back in. She hatched out a third and I took it and brought it inside leaving her with three. One of which was peeping when I candled it so i left ti with her, only to find it doa in the shell. Now she has two more (mind you these are anyones guess when she started them as she was in the coop and I moved her inside) one I'm fairly certain is no good but the other not sure. So what do I do? Should I leave her with the two or pull them? She is bald on the chest and a frizzle so she can't go back to the coop. Should I just give her a couple of new eggs and leave her and hope she finishes them? I don't think the bin is quite big enough cuz a couple of times she just lifts up and lets go if you know what I mean. I pick her up and clean the nest and set her back in. She settles back down and so it goes.

She tucks the eggs back in like she's still in the broody mind set. What to do? She does have a heat light aimed at her, in an unheated room off the garage. Not in the coop. She's warm enough that her water didn't freeze. The bin has no lid but she's content to just sit there. I have no where to put her that would keep her warm enough with that bald breast. I suppose I could redo the next which is a dish pan and to high in the front for a chick to get over.

Thanks rancher

I will definitely be building broody bins larger when the weather get nicer. Anyone got pics of broody bins? or pens or what ever?

Tim, Nellabean has great brooder ideas- go ask on SDWD.
I wish I had advice for you, but I am broody ignorant, only have had one ever. Good luck, though.

Love all the pictures! Bassleg, those are some mighty good sized girls you got there!

That is a dilemma you have there, Tim. If I were you, I would give her a couple chicks and just forget about her setting. Maybe that will satisfy her. ???

Easy peasy broody pens ....
