Nick, a lot of the Mediterranean breeds (Leghorn, Penedesenca, Minorca) can and do have combs that lay over.

Badbaby- spend a little time with them, with treats in hand and they will probably get over being skittish. Most Dels are super friendly- that is a great picture, by the way.
