Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Are they sex links?

They should be, if my Dels have the silver gene and the Buckeye has the red gene. They should, but I have been wondering if the Dels have been crossed somewhere in their background with another white or Columbian breed. I am concerned that it would change the outcome.

My Delaware pullet, Tasha, daughter of Isaac and Ellie, is laying at 14.5 weeks. I couldn't believe it at first, but she laid yesterday and then again today. She lives in the coop with elderly hens, a banty Cochin, the broody Orp who raised her and a 15 wk old D'uccle trio. No mistaking everyone else's eggs. Its flattish on one side, rough with calcium deposits and quite small, laid in the same nest both days.

Reading through this thread, I saw a cockerel described as "perfect" though to me he does not have that bowl-shaped body. I heard that body shape is one of the most important things to cull for. Do I have the wrong idea?

I met Paul Harter today. We live 200 miles apart, so we met half way, and made a chick trade. He is just a super nice guy, and we had a great chat. I have 24 of his Delaware chicks, and am excited to see how they turn out!

Laura, you would have loved it, I am sure! We met near the lake of the Ozarks. It is such a beautiful area and the weather is so nice today (other than a bit windy). I wish you could have come with me!

Oh I am sure I would have loved it, just getting the opportunity to meet you in person would have been wonderful by itself. But then throw in the nice weather...

It has been very windy here today, cold but the sun was shining too!

I'm so happy to have some Delaware chicks! It's my first time with this breed and I'm impressed at how vigorous they are even at less than a week old, and how quick they were to figure out that The Big Giant Hand brings them yummy things to eat. I also got some red sex links and some light brahmas this time around (first time with those breeds too- I was in the mood to change things up a bit this year) but no question it's the Delawares who are the first to come to me. They swarm!
