Come on, rub it in why don't you! lol I have been trying to learn a little about the genetics of spurred hens. Some have two, most none and some one. From what I have seen, the one is usually on the left leg. Does that have to do with the functional ovary in hens? I have seen a couple of mini's with one good spur on the left leg and a "soft" enlarged spur "nub" on the right.

I have a bunch of spurred hens. How it is inherited I do not know, but one of my lines when bred to itself produces almost exclusively spurred hens. I think it is recessive. Spur development I see appears symmetrical. Cock side of same line does have larger spurs than cocks of similar age from other lines. Egg production appears same. Problem when breeding comes with eggs in last couple days before hatch when chicks inside begin absorbing calcium making shells thinner. The spurred hens much more apt to damage those eggs. Then you have more frequent damage to hatched chicks.
