Interesting!Yes, that's what you want in blues.
You want a nice dark blue base, with a darker blue lacing. A very nice hen.

I saw a guy (girl? Thanks, keeping my fingers crossed!!!
The Red Pyles aren't colouring up as much as I'd hoped but that's probably because they're still young. At least I hope that's why! We'll see in the Spring. Funny thing though, that cockerel's crow sounds like "Shave and a Haircut"!
Here's where we differ, I like continuity in my hatchings! lol! If I get a pure colour, I want the babies to be THAT colour!
I also tend to get more males than females overall. Wonder if it's a breed thing...![]()
Man, that's a bummer. Was it a skunk, or a raccoon? Or other?I’d love to get Millie Fleur OEGB. I have porcelain. Unfortunately though my hen got killed, so my plans have change to ordering some porcelain eggs off eBay and breeding my porcelain boy back to my recessive lavender and mottled hen.
I got mine through a small sorta-local hatchery (less than three hours away, pick-up only). I don't think I'd want to do mail-order though, especially with the low hatch rate in OEGB to begin with (I had set 21 eggs for that latest hatch, seven started to develop and only five hatched).I saw a guy (girl?) on Ebay selling both those colors, but I don't know if they can ship out of the country though.
Did you order them through a hatchery? Based off of the Old English I've gotten through hatchery's their coloring doesn't come in as - consistent? Like you'd see in show birds.
When they molt the first time, you will see the final result with their coloring.
That's fair enough. I'm kinda torn on which I like better, the birds that can throw different colors, or true colors. Because that's what I'm doing with my BB reds, Silver Duckwings, and Whites. I'm breeding those all true to color, but I'm also making my own line of blue reds, and BB golden - Using Lance Dore Blue reds, and Elvis Pate BB goldens for the base of my strain.
I've wondered the same thing....
Okay, so they'll probably won't be as consistent in their coloring, but birds from more local hatcheries are typically a bit better then say - Cackle.I got mine through a small sorta-local hatchery (less than three hours away, pick-up only). Eventually, once I have enough birds (and if my daughter doesn't stop me!) I want to work on my own colours too, but for now I just want some good quality birds with know genetics.
I don’t know. She got out of her pen and I forgot to put her back up that night. She was sleeping on the top of a 6ft tall dog kennel I keep my mixed flock, the next morning I found feathers all through out our field. What ever it was also killed one of my buff Brahma bantam and 3-4 other chickens. I’m guessing a fox.Man, that's a bummer. Was it a skunk, or a raccoon? Or other?
Thanks! I hope they return to. I loved my porcelain girl she was so pretty.I hope those turn out for you, make sure to post updates. I'd like to see how that goes.![]()
Do you sell eggs?Okay, so they'll probably won't be as consistent in their coloring, but birds from more local hatcheries are typically a bit better then say - Cackle.
Oh yeah, I 1,000% understand that. I've put in 21 eggs and got 2 before.
I'll have to look into shipping internationally, maybe I could get you some birds at some point.
I'm *ALMOST* ready to have all my pairs set up for 2025. 3, maybe 4 pairs of Silver Duckwings, 3 pairs of Blue red makers, 3 pairs of Whites, 2 pairs of BB Golden and the rest of my BB Reds together.
I don't think I have enough hens for my BB Red males, so I'm currently shopping for my last trio of Whites, and BB Red hens then I believe I'm 100% set.
I typically don't, but I'd be willing to ship come spring time.Do you sell eggs?
I keep looking for a nice SDW cockerel, I have 2 hens, but haven’t been able to find a good boy. The 2 that I have did hatch a couple good looking boys, but the dad is one of my mixed boys, or a serama. Most of the cockerels I got have leakage, I think just one or two will remain with no leakage. But I’d much rather find a good full bred one to begin with.

Okay, yes. I know exactly how that goes. SDW are a very hard color. There's so many out there, but not a whole lot that are nice - nice.
I have 3-4 SDW cockerels growing up now that I'll be selling in the spring/summer. They're pretty young, but come from good lines. The GC Bantams line.
If you're interested, I can ship you one of them. Or if you want just hatching eggs, that's fine too.
I'll get you taken care of.
