Show off your Old English Game Bantams!!

Hello! I’m hoping to get some feedback on a few of my OEGBs if possible :fl

These are the adults I’ve acquired

I’ve been told before they aren’t good quality (the sdw hen is a Japanese Bantam I’ve learned since getting them), which is fine by me at this point, it’s just fun getting different colours out of the mixed pen!

Here’s some of the offspring they’ve produced this year! It’s fun seeing the different colours popping up and watching how them develop over time.

There’s two of these sport coloured cockerels from the second batch of chicks, I’m really liking how they look just for fun little bantams not necessarily for breeding out.

I love to hear all feedback! Even just to chat about the breed I’m finding can be a really enjoyable conversation to me!

I think they are just lovely!!! I don't breed to the SOP as I find we 'break' them more than anything else by pushing such artificial standards on them, and I certainly don't dub the combs on the males for the only reason of it being fashionable.

If you want small combs, breed for that.

Love all the colours!

Thank you!! I love their colours as well :love

I’m not a huge fan of dubbing, plus I don’t think I’ll be showing personally myself and if I do it’ll most likely be the females over showing any males for that reason alone!
I’ve only ever thought about dubbing a rooster for his own sake, he had breathing issues, but overtime we figured out how to help him live comfortably with his comb!

I love my hybrids not going to lie! I don’t imagine mine are very pure OEGBs to begin with lol. The guy had OEGBs and Seramas he said and I ended up with a Japanese Bantam with the four I picked from him

(Disclaimer! Any critique that is given by me is going based off of show standards, and my little knowledge able breeding to SOP.
Your birds are gorgeous!)

Your main rooster looks to be a golden duckwing (?), He has a really nice U in his back.
Alright coloring, for a golden duckwing I'd like to see a darker copper "strip" from shoulder to shoulder crossing over his back.
His tail, by show standards isn't great. You want a big fanned tail (I'll attach a pic).
His wing carriage isn't great either. I'd like to see it higher up. I struggle with wing carriage with my birds, as well.
And, of course, he needs dubbed.

I'm not sure what color the hen in the second picture is. I'm kinda thinking fawn red. Definitely not a blue red, as I first though based on the blue tail.
Quality wise, I'd say she's alright. I want to see a more fanned tail, more solid breasting, and tighter/higher wing carriage.
But, I'd use her in my breeding.

Looking at the rest of the pictures, looks like tails (Angle and fanned) and wings are a thing you'd have to work on if you were breeding to show.
But, since you're just breeding for fun, everything I said doesn't matter. You're doing the same breeding I am - just crossing the colors to see what pops out! :)

Here's an example of the fanned out tail you'd want.

This guy typically has his wings much higher as well, he dropped them because I popped him up. Lol

Thank you for such wonderfully detailed advice and a compliment to boot!! You’ve been a lot more help and easier on the critiquing than the breeder I talked to in person and I appreciate that immensely! I was almost too scared to post because I’ve been keeping tabs on your postings
You have such beautiful birds and such nice quality to work with too!! 💕
The fifth boy looks similar to the brassy back variety I’ve seen! How fun!!
The first or the last rooster, I’d love to find something similar to breed to the hen you suggested was fawn red! I bet they would make some pretty offspring :pop
I've gotten a couple really pretty pullets too, I'll have to grab pics.
Please do!!! :love I’ve been having fun seeing what pops out, I really like the teeny tiny sdw-ish looking pullet from my batch, she’s adorable! I can’t wait to see what pullets you’ve got with the boys you’ve shown you produced :clap

My apologizes for the late reply. But-

You're most welcome. I love talking about the breed, and helping others to improve their stock or just keeping them (of course, I'm quite fond of the actual breeding and showing aspect of the breed. Lol!).
One thing about some of the hard core breeders of the OEGB, is if your birds have major flaws, they say they're basically garbage, and to get better quality birds. Which, I understand. Breeding these bantams is VERY competitive. But, I do not think someone should kill, or think their birds are trash, just because of their quality if they just want to keep them for personal pleasure.
That's how I started. I got a little hatchery quality BB red hen from a local feed store and fell in love with the breed, and here I am now.
Haha! Don't hesitate to post your birds in here. Bantams are bantams. Besides, this thread is almost dead because a lot of folk are more interested in seramas, kikirikis, or aztecas now days.

I'm much obliged. Thank you for your kind words. :) If you ever want birds, hit me up! ;)

Yes! He is a very unique specimen of a type of brassy back. I was going to keep him and see how he filled out, but I sold him - and kind of regret it now.
Yessss!! Those would make some beauties! Let me know, I *might* have more in a couple weeks. :D

I haven't gotten any yet. But, looks like my weather is finally going to cooperate with me. So I'll try to get some this week.

Honestly the smaller size is one of the most redeeming qualities to me! A lot of people are preferring the bantams I’m finding!! Everyone wants a cute little bird to be their friend!

I’d take you up on that but thinking it may be hard to ship to Canada :hugs

I look forward to seeing what else you produce even if I can’t get any up here!!
I love seeing the mixes and what’s crossed to create what kind of colouration! I’m super into biology and the play on genetics the birds have with the different feather genes and the egg genes. A lot of really cool information and knowledge to gain from crossing colours!!
