Show off your Peas!

my ducks do not care for the peas either.
but my male loves the ducks, he will back them in a corner and display at them with everything he has, as soon as they see an opening the ducks take off quacking up a storm.

Great photos, everyone! I love seeing the pens and the other birds with the peas, too. I am hoping the peas will let me add a breeding pair or trio of birds (ducks, OEG, bantam Cochin....?)to their pens after breeding season but maybe I should add them all at one time since it will be new for everyone.

Love seeing all this! I love getting my pea fix on!

Your welcome.  The bird in my avatar is my Temminck's Tragopan pheasant male.  He is super friendly and extremely beautiful!

We also have Temmincks. The male will eat out of our hand. I have pheasants, peas and mandarins in the same pen. The only issue we have is when I fill the duck pool and the mandarin splash all over. The peacock HATES that and will chase the ducks. Never any harm done, and a bit amusing too.

Poor Master, he is in full blown mating mode, he has been wondering around here fanning to the girls, making the mating call.. he goes walking off by himself like he is looking for a hen i guess, and he won't listen to a word i say, not even when it comes to treats.

Yesteday i locked up 2 extra males i had that were pecking his backside everytime he tried to romance a hen, i guess now the coast is clear

Darn full has decided to roost in a pine tree out in the field and scream his silly head off, that might be a good thing him being out there and all, mabe i won't hear him and get some sleep.

Whoo Masters one hot bird Zaz .So is Alto Minxfox. Half the ducklings are mallards and some red crested pochards and redheads. Blue Creek Farm ,if I had white spaldings or any babies for that matter Id see if Minxfox or somebody would want them because I really dont want any chicks.. At first the peafowl scared the ducks now they could care less about each other. That could change if the hen got broody maybe. I had some red golden girls that would sling ducklings 3 feet in the air.lol! Had to get them out quick. I usually leave the first batch of ducklings in the big pen just to see how all the other birds react cause if anybody is mean out they go to another pen. I like friendly and mild mannered birds. Those tragopans are NICE!!! I see them and Impeyans again in the future. Of course I have to build another pen probably.lol!

Does anyone know if Peacocks get swolen glands that make the top of their neck swell up when they are in mating mode?
Masters just puffed up like this yesterday and he has lost his pea picken mind.. he is wondering around like he is looking for something and is not with any of the other peahens anymore.

I am not exactly sure what causes the neck to get big like that. I know sometimes their neck is all big and then minutes later it is not. I wonder if peacocks fluff out those feathers to make them look that way or if the bump helps amplify their call? One thing I read was a lady who thought it was a muscle that aids with displaying. I am not sure but I always like how the males look around this time. That is normal that Master P. Is not hanging out with the others much. The peacocks will kind of be more to themselves in the breeding season. Sometimes Alto likes to perch alone and when I feed the peas he eats a little then walks off to perch somewhere. They interact less with everyone but they do display a lot. Master P. Certainly has enough ladies so I don't think he would be thinking about running off.

It is said that the increased testosterone (male hormone) levels causes the swelling on the upper neck at this time of the year.Towards the end of the breeding season, this hormone level decreases triggering the molt and the bulged neck becomes flat along side.
