Great video AugeredIn. Love your birds and Zaz yours too! I have just bought a brandnew GoProBlackHero3+ (exactly what you have) from Best Buy. So this is strictly for people when you first get one and no one to help you and you have to look on computer for educational vids and/or tech support. I had to have help to learn alot of it for dang sure. Matter of fact If I had not had a couple of friends that have them help me to get rolling on it I was so frustrated at it so much the first day I honestly would have taken it back.

I understand the frustration if you have never used anything like this or any other "editable" video. The good news is that there is a lot of how to videos out there.

For the record my tech skills are considered to lower end of the road. I would score a 4 outta10 just guessing. Heres what no one tells you about trying to watch what you recorded on it. You dont just go shooting 1080 HD and expect to VIEW it with what they give you unless you have a MAC maybe.. I am in the process of ordering a HDMI cable so this will work for my samsung smart TV and Dell computer, You may have to get a FIRMWARE update so your recording(video) doesnt skip while trying to view it.

Actually, I am not totally sure what the problem would be here. If you have a relative recent computer you can watch the videos straight from the memory card. You can plug it into any SD card port on the computer or through a $15 card reader that plugs into a USB port without using an HDMI cable. The output from the Hero is instantly viewable as it is straight MP4 format. You must have had some computer issues.

BIG HINT: Your best bet is to set it on 760 (This is very clear almost like the 1080 setting BTW) as this will work on most peoples smart TVs or computers to watch what you recorded.

Besides the benefit of being usable on older computers and tvs, the 760 format has other advantages. Unless you are producing final video that will be viewed mostly in HD, 760 is much easier to work with from a memory standpoint, allows shorter processing times and can be used at higher frame rates that allow smoother slow motion footage. I shoot everything at 1080p 60 fps and downgrade the quality as necessary depending on final use.

It aint no walk in the park to begin with without help. Make no mistake about that. All my crap talk aside my tech friends and everyone else said the same as you. Go Pro is the way to go over sony. No doubt.

Yeah, I hate to beat this dead horse too bad but from top to bottom no one comes close to the Go Pro Hero yet. You can save some money though with the Sony. Another example of Sony issues is the location of the external plugs. They are under a cover on the bottom of the camera. The only way to mount the camera is via the waterproof enclosure. The attachment point is at the bottom. You cannot use the external plugs even if you cut openings in the housing as you cannot connect them.

The camera in itself is very very simple to use. The viewing afterward. NO! Im learning editing and whatnot as I speak but its a heck of alot easier to talk to someone that has had one for a while to solve this and especially these start up problems. Long story short. I do love the camera now. But sucks big time starting out for the average person! I have the rail mount and am getting the head mount later. Anything I miss here or anything you want to share Augeredin?

Just my added comments above. We shoot lots of video so the processing and editing is not new to us so it makes things a little easier. I intend to shoot lots of video around the pens, brooder barns and throughout the incubating and hatching process this year and post them here. Setting up/holding the DSLR around the birds is too much of a pain. With the new Hero it is incredibly easy. I actually cannot believe someone has not beat me to posting this type of video. I believe by the end of next year video from these types of cameras will be as prevalent as pictures on forums.

Also so no one gets us confused we meant to say 720 instaed of 760. As of now this is the only way I can watch videos on my computer or TV. Brand spanking new TV. No I dont understand either why it wont do1080 format. But Ill figure it out eventually. Like I said earlier. Aint a cakewalk for sure. Gonna try to upload a video I just shot to you tube and then to here since I cant copy and paste it directly to here

I like that with a gopro you can make your smartphone a remote to view plus it comes with a remote ( not for viewing though)Can the sonys do that as well? Anyway they each have their ups and downs Zaz. If you can... see if you can talk to someone that has the Sony like you want. Thats always a big plus on whatever you decide to get. I mainly wanted a camera/casing  that could take abuse pretty well and like to use it underwater alot since I fish for a living and for fun.

Must be nice to fish for a living! Lucky ducky!:)

The quality on that does look very good! I took a multimedia class in high school and my Junior year all we did was shoot videos, edit them, edit stock videos, make our own music video, etc. We used Adobe Premiere Pro for all he editing. When it comes to making videos, sometimes it gets very frustrating. The hardest part for me can be finding the right settings to save the final version of the video. There are a lot of good instructional videos out there for how to do things. I am more of a visual learner so I like to find instructional videos more so than articles on how to do something.

I am not sure if Lynda.com has done any Go Pro tutorials, but they are great for teaching you how to use all kinds of programs and things.

For me I just have an HD Everio video camera and my Cannon camera that I photograph my peafowl with has a video setting on it. It films in HD and the camera's image stabilizer comes in handy so that I never use a tripod because the video is pretty steady. You all may want to check your cameras just to see if you have a video setting, especially if you have a fairly nice camera it should take some good video. My dad just got his own camera and I need to figure out how to use the video on that. I can't get it to focus when it is in the filming mode...

It is nice how the Go Pro comes with its own editor. That is definitely a bonus. Is the editor nicer than Windows Movie Maker? I really hate Windows Movie Maker...

So they tell me.lol! Actually I have fun fishing for fun. but when its a charter... not nowhere near as much. I enjoy it sometimes but a job is a job. Im more worried about my clientele having fun andcatching more than anything else.Thats the unseen pressure for Captains.
How long can you record on the 720 setting?
The book says an hour an a half. AugereinIn is the man to ask better than me on all this im sure. Ive only recorded a 30 minute one so far. !t was duck hunting so I have to learn how to edit the minute or so of the action. My son said he will show me and add some music to it to boot.

Please post the video when ya get threw.
One of the drawbacks of the Sony is the waterproof cover covers up the microphone it does have a jack for an external microphone that to is covered. so i will be getting both headbands one for when it is rainy and one for pretty days
