Show off your Peas!

Tether wasn't ever made for chickens. It was actually for falcons, hawks, and eagles. Those are lot stronger flyers than a peacock. A horse can injure itself and the rider and possibly die from it. Perhaps we shouldn't ride horses either. Dogs can kill themselves with a leash and collar, perhaps we shouldn't have dogs with leashes but they could attack people. No matter what animals can kill themselves or get injured badly no matter what.
Some people shouldn't own *any* animals. Don't even get me started on proper horsemanship, stabling, etc, you don't want to go there with me, lol. Let's just say that I've owned over 300 horses and never had one get injured while riding *or* while I was handling it.

Then why are the people who run these poultry/livestock shows making people use them on birds they were never intended for? Birds of prey have much stronger legs than Peafowl, they use those talons to grab and hold onto prey, they are alot more muscular and are not going to become dislocated as quickly.
Bottom line is..Yes, accidents happen, and when they do we humans should learn from the mistakes we made and do things differently the next time shouldn't we? Not just keep repeating the same actions and suffering the same consequences. If You chain your dog out on your deck and it jumps over the railing and hangs itself, will YOU still chain your next dog out on your deck or will you learn from what happened the first time???? Yes animals can kill or injure themselves badly, but you do not have to help them do it.

Chickens don't really fly. Tethers are only used on birds that can truly fly, like some pigeons, doves, or peafowl. I'm not saying you have had horses injured Kathy. I'm saying that some times accidents happen when you don't expect them like this horse race. There are reasons why animals do certain things. Example, the peafowl that I had tried fighting me by trying to fly away, Thora doesn't fight the tether. Also only having one leg tethered is different then both. Both, the bird can still fly but won't go anywhere, one leg and the bird will have it's flight pattern screwed with and falls but you can catch them. No I wouldn't do it again and I would only keep the dog on leash when I'm walking my dog if I lived in town but when home no leash. Sometimes bad accidents happen and they aren't expected but they still happen. Like in this horse race. Who would expect the one horse to just suddenly trip. Skip to 29 seconds.

Birdrain Peafowl are very strong fliers, i
know that for a fact as mine fly around here all the times, don't know where you got the idea they weren't but that is WRONG, so if a pea panics and instinct takes over good sense they can foreseeable pull their leg right out of socket, you aid it happened to a young pea you had so imagine if you can a big pea doing this.

I once thought it would be ok to catch a pea by it's legs just like a chicken and i was informed of the danger and i listened, after seeing for myself how powerful they can be i was glad they told me cause i could have injured one of my birds.

IMO if you bird is to wild to handle in a normal day you should not even bring it to a show to me as a judge i would get the impression you did not work with your animal to get it ready for the show, did you work with your calf before you showed them or did you drag it in the arena and try to hold them still and keep them from kicking the judge?I bet not,

Get or hatch out some babies and start working with them as you would other livestock it can be done after all this is suppose to be a learning experience for you to help you in your future.

I never said they weren't strong fliers I said they are not as strong fliers as an eagle, hawk, or falcon. Thora I got when she was two weeks old. My steer last year didn't fight me nor has any of my show animals. My cow and her calf are tame as well.

That's funny cause i recall you posting just the opposite about your steer.
