Show off your Peas!

Help! I have a white male pea that is opening his mouth every minute or so, then he shakes his head and tries to clear his throat. What's wrong?

He is getting a respiratory infection.  I would suggest that you have a fecal float done and find the root cause.

I talked to the vet I bring him in at 11:00 am. When I went to the pen to catch him I watched him for about about 5 min and he did not gasp.. I am wondering.....he was at the water bobbing for June bugs if he got choked?

I have taken my fair share of peas into the vets office, but I usually find that the extra expense of her actually seeing the bird doesn't justify the cost. Taking in a poo sample and having both the float and a gram stain done will tell you all you need to know and save you the 'exam' charge.

I love your vet!
