Thanks everyone. I'm really loving having these little ones. And I think they like their home too.
Here's one from today.
Got some nice shots of Owen's train I think. Click to enlarge to see those beautiful eye feathers!
I think that his train is starting to look really nice! He still hasn't displayed for me, but he did for my dad. Little punk, he does it on purpose!
I've owned him for exactly a month today.
Zazouse, I noticed the kennels/pens in the background. I have some detached panels that have been laying around for a couple years. I really need to get those up. I'm debating on putting up tarps like you have in the pic of making a roof. I'm not sure yet. I have a about 5 peas that I need to move ASAP. I wish I could just blink my eyes and another flight pen could be constructed. :/
Those are just temporary, the tarps won't last very long with the wind and all, i do have one section that is covered by a canopy that is built to go on the panels, i have an extra but just never put it up cause i only need a temporary setup , but it is always good to have things on hand when you are ready to do something.
Ps there is chicken wire under those tarps and i have to put poles up to make the tarp highter in some placed so the water will drain off if we get any rain.
I have tarps on a small pen that is attached to my large pen. I would say they last for about a year or less then they start to weaken and rip. We layer the tarps and in some places have wire underneath so that if one breaks there is another one there but I really don't like using them. The only reason we use them is because the birds like how it protects them from the rain and the sun. They have a nice covered tin area that has high perches and everything but they would rather be in the small little pen under the tarps.
I got some photos today. I was working on cleaning the pen today. The problem with having more white peafowl than any other variety is that when they shed you really notice it. I have a bunch of white feathers everywhere so I was working on picking those up and after I got most of the feathers I took some photos of a few of my peas.
Here is a closeup of those pretty neck feathers (these are Peep's feathers). One reason I love peafowl is due to my love of shiny things...
Here is another feather photo. This is Peep's train. He has about 3 eye feathers but they are not in this photo.
More of Peep! I noticed he has brighter brown eyes than Alto (an example of Alto's eyes are in my avatar) so I was wondering if Peep's eyes will always be lighter or if they will darken because I know most peachick's eyes change from blue to brown.
Now for some photos of the peahen sisters I tried free-ranging but they didn't want to be out of the pen. The one with the white neck is Fiona and the other one is Xena. Here the girls are preening each other.
Finally here are some photos of a few of my white peafowl. I do think 3 of my whites are spalding whites.
This hen has the most yellow on her face. I named her Goldilocks when she was little.
