Show off your Peas!

I posted these pictures on another thread as well, but I decided to post them here as well for all to see.

Bronze peachicks! There are four but one was hiding under the broody.

My India Blue split White peahen went broody so she has eight eggs.

Aww great peachick photos! It will be fun to watch them grow!

Your peahen picked a great place to nest, and that is a very pretty nest too. Did she line it with grass? It looks really really good!

I have chicken wire that is going past the decade mark on some pens so Im trying to make you feel a little better about it autumnfisher. Also you can run a cheap electric fence around the top and/or bottom to keep predators out when using chicken wire.Thats what I do . Nice pen you built. You can always add heavier stuff to the frame later. I go to chain link when my chicken wire fails.
Thank you for the info :) now i know what to do if anything happens.

Quote: I wish she did! She just originally dug a depression in the soil and mulch, but in NY we were having very rainy weather so I lined the nest with grass so that the eggs would not get as wet. The poor peahen would be soaked when it rained, so I made a little plywood structure to keep her dry. So far everything is good with her.

Had a white Peacock hanging around the pea place for a few weeks. Fortunatley I have yet to tear down all the empty pens so I left the gate open to one and put food and water inside. He accepted my offering and yesterday I was able to walk him in and close the gate. Yes!

Gotta new Pea! I named him Captain.
He looks to be about 2 years old to me but I am not very experienced with Peas yet.

Took a few more photos while I was there. Majesty came running down to the gate and presented himself in the most grand way when I started pulling up grass and clover for them.

I know the above photo is typically what you see with everyone's IB but I did not have one as good as this yet of my handsome man. Now I do! I am not a good photographer so it has been a challenge for me.

Jack has some lovely purple going on. I am just amazed at how awesome it comes out when the light hits it.

And my baby pea bird is doing good. I have more eggs under hens so I hope to have more than just this one this year. This is an IB but I have eggs from the silver pied and Bronze incubating under fuzzy butts.

Beautiful peas indeed.
Is Jack blind in one eye?

Yes, Jack has only one eye. I call him One Eyed Jack. He lost the other as a youngster in a pen with too many other older boys. I baby him and he responds very well!

I wasn't sure how old Captain would be but with that train I thought older than 2 so 3 years is fine by me. I can certainly put him to good use!

He had to belong to someone that fed him as he knows what a food bucket is and came towards me when I was rattling it to get some out for him. There is a zoo very close by so I figure he may be one of theirs. They let them free range on the small acreage they have and often the peas fly over the bamboo stalks and get in the road or go into the neighborhood across from them.
Oh well, mine now!
