I went to take pictures only to find blood and feathers all around the pen. To start off with, my newly hatched black shoulder spalding peachicks were a bit bloody (not to bad) on their back since the cochin broody was biting them. Took care of them and got them away from the hen. I was expecting the Opal WE to be chased by the black shoulder peacock. Somehow the black shoulder peacock had his left foot all bloody, so I caught him cleaned the wound, applied some ointment, and bandaged him up. Unfortunately I sped up his molt since I took out a handful of train feathers catching him. The Opal WE as you will see in the pictures has three patches of blood which I guess were from the black shoulder jumping on him. I did not want to catch him and clean him up right now since he is pacing the fence and scared. He is not in the mood for pictures so I just took a few. He molted his last WE feather on him so I included pictures of his train feathers.











WestKnollAmy, how come your friend's Opal WE has so much of a blue shine on his neck? I realize his is a bit rough right now and he does not has a train, but still, I expected more! Either way he has potential and I need to find another hen so that I can get Opal Silver Pieds out of this peacock.

He is beautiful!
I do not know why he has so much color on his neck. The breeder hatched him out and was going to put him down because he thought he was a freak but his friend, the co-breeder that gave me these birds, told him to wait and see what he grew up to be. Boy, am I glad he did!
When I first saw the bird, I did not know what color it was either. He did not have this much color but it was about this time last year when I saw him and I did not care for him. MY MISTAKE!
Wait til next spring and you too will see that color.

BTW, is there any way you can separate your birds until they all learn each other? I hate to hear of all the fighting. I know that was rough and you and them.

Thanks! I am also glad that peacock was not put down. Now I want spring to come sooner. I guess I will just have to be patient...

They are all fine now, but the problem is the other pens have other peacocks I am trying to sell, and I figured he would be better of with the hens.

Thanks Zaz! All you have to do is let me know you want some and next year you can get some eggs from him, or whenever you want.

I was watching him and now that he is dozing in the sun he does have more a blue shine, so I am satisfied. The other good news is the peacocks are fine now and are acting like they have lived their whole life together.
