Happy Happy happy wee peas out for a morning of exploration.

Snickers my Coyote dog, this is my flusher dog, i have 2 , i tell them to fan out and they run full circle in the safe zone stirring up any unwanted critter, they are the only ones here that can catch a fox.

Love me some DQ on after a hot days work.

I see you were eating a snack while out enjoying the birds and your cute dog!

So, Zaz, your peas are hatched by the birds and raised on the ground. You have chickens as well and do not have problems with pea chicks not thriving. I suppose very few wild animals come through to bring in any infestation? Especially with the dogs on alert all the time.

I am just so worried about the pea chicks not doing well that I am not planning on putting them on the ground until they are much older. I would prefer to do as you though.

My pea chicks are growing up. The IB BS WE are getting color now.

I had another Bronze pea chick hatch out under my Silkies. Still have a few more eggs to go for hatching, though some have not developed.

They are beautiful.
Do you have a photo of the older bronze chick you hatched or do you still have it?

I hatched out all but 8 babies in my incubator and 2 of my hens hatched them.

I raised up 3 batches in of peas in the pen till the day they turned 4 months old the last 3 years then i turned them loose, this year i tuned them out when the oldest turned 2 months and the youngest a little under a week, i want to see if it makes a difference , i believe when there is alto of rain and it is wet and hot i may have more trouble cause parasite's thrive in this kind of weather , but it rains and then it is bone day in a day or two so i will not be letting them out till it dries up..
Letting them all out at such an early age is a test.. if i start l seeing them looking sickly i will keep them penned but so far i have let them out a couple times a day when it is cool and everyone looks good.. time will tell. meds are on hand if needed.

I went to the pen pen yesterday and it looked like someone had put all of my peas in a blender and blended them up and poured them out. They boys have lost all of their feathers. It was a scary sight but I'm glad! :)

I had my Bronze babies marked and one that hatched in my friend's bator died but I am pretty sure I still have the other one. However, the markers I put on them came off and I lost track of which one it is now. I should be able to tell in a few months but for now I am not selling anything.

I really don't want to sell until I know boys from girls anyhow because EVERYONE around here wants girls. If I have too many boys I can pair them up and sell them, if I have extra girls then I will ask a nice price for them. If no one buys them then it is still to my favor.

The man that gave me the peas was hatching and taking his to the sale when they were a few weeks old and getting $5 each for them. Not going to happen with me. My time and energy is worth more than $5 and so are peas. Besides, they are a bit more fragile and I am betting the ones he sold probably did not survive the "care" they got from folks buying from an auction, especially our local auctions.

I am not sure if this is one or not in this photo. It would be the one in the back, I believe. There are 2 of the IB BS WE chicks, 2 turkey poults and 2 brown ones. The dark one in front I am pretty sure is an IB but the one in back I am hoping is a Bronze. The other 2 pea chicks in this pen is a (Silver?) Pied and another that I thought was a IB BS WE but it is very white.

Geez, didn't mean to write a book.

Is that a turkey with all that black in it's wings? I want turkeys but DH said he hates them, don't know why but this is the one time he ever said he don't like a kind of animal so i will be a good wifey and not get them, funny my geese taught him the goose dance and you would think once more were hatching he would say something about not liking them but he never has and they would try to run him off when he would walk threw the yard, i kept telling him not to stop just keep going when they put their heads down and run towards him, he finely learned and now they leave him alone after 4 years

I know what ya mean about wee peas, i read an add the other day that that peas were as easy as chickens to keep and if ya had a chicken coop you were all set for peas already or something like that
