Show off your Peas!

I don't understand why some peoples Peacocks drop their displays when you show up.I literally, during breeding season have to move several of my males train out of the way to get by him to put feed out. Many of my breeding Peacocks has a diffrent attitude towards me during breeding season. This time of year they tolerate me as I do nightly chores. they will fly up on their perches and eat bread, bananas, corn, ect from my hand but if I don't have treats they would rather avoid me.But come late March and the showing off begins,if they are trying to give a peahen the stinkeye,I can touch their trains, push them aside, whatever and they practically ignore me.Roadtrip is the best example since his train only leaves about 8" on each side of the pen,if he's standing right.Opie is another who could care less about me being within inches of him.

Beautiful boy's Frenchy Thanks for sharing.

Perhaps they drop their trains because they see you as the Alpha Peacock when you approach, I say this because when one of my young'uns fans and an older alpha male walks by they drop their train like you are describing .

So pretty FBC:) My boy seems so nervous around us still. I'm hoping with the new pen I'm building will change his temperament. It's a lot closer to the house and easier for us to all interact with them. Mine love cat food...my hen likes us and comes running...she even fans for us:) But Eragon our male likes his cat food but stays as far away from us as possible.

It's impossible to get a good picture of The Trio, they move so fast, but they're getting so big!
They're just turning 6 months old.

Sneezy (left, boy), Bubbles (back, girl), and Hoppy (boy).

Sneezy and Bubbles..."What, no worms?"

Hoppy...

And of course the perfect Peggy, working on his first real train...

He's around 2.5 years old. Next season he'll have his first real train.
He only had a few little eye feathers this past season, but he did a lot of practicing of his Fancy Dance!

It is so strange how some get a train real early and others seem to take all of the 3 years, I got one male from last years hatch that has a lots of eye feathers already and one a year older than him that only has a few spindly ones.
My Master P had a full blown train and did not turn 3 until he lost the entire train.

I learned one thing with peas is nothing is set in stone, I thought it would be 2 to 3 years before my hens layed and had some lay after they turned a year old
