Show off your Peas!

Hi all, It has been a bit since my last post here. Since then I have been given three new birds.
To test the P education I have gotten from the BYC Pea Section, this is what I am guessing I have. :)
All comments encouraged, be easy on the grading scale.

Photo's to follow.

Age I would guess at yearlings.

I have a Hen that I would say she is a Cameo ? She has a slight touch of green at the top of her neck don't know if you will be able to see it in the pic.

I have two Males that I would guess at IB but they have a bit of white in their flights. SO?

Hen on the Log.

Male #1

Male #2

Yearling or a little older maybe. The hen is a Black Shoulder, not a Cameo Black Shoulder, the brown flights are normal for a BS hen.

Cameo BS have no dark feathering, tan is the darkest coloring they get. This is my CBS above, very "Buff" colored.

The 2 males are split to white or pied as per those little white wing feathers, the white on the chest is probably just a leftover from the juvenile plumage and will molt out soon.

Really? Oh, I feel a photo bomb coming on! I must be so mistaken on my chicks, I have been thinking I have Cameo chicks when by what you said would make them Cameo Black Shoulder and a couple that I thought were CBS are really BS. You have already helped me tremendously educating me with regular BS. I have determined that out of seven BS chicks two are male but that is going to change after you see my next round of pics. I can't wait until sun up to go take more pics!

I think that would be a great idea if you want more Silver Pieds, but perhaps not the only way to get them. I have a Pied hen, she is not phenotypically silver, but is out of silver parents. I have paired her with a pied male and a white males whose histories are unknown to me, and she has produced Silver Pied chicks with both males. From this I would infer that while she doesn't visually show Silver she can pass it along to offspring, which seems more likely than both unrelated males carrying the Silver genes.

As for purging the IB's I think if it was me I would hold onto a male and maybe 2 or 3 hens that look to be pure. While the unique colors are "OOHed and AAHed" over on here, I have found that IBs are the bread and butter of the market. They are the most sought after year after year, at least in my area. You obviously cannot sell them for as much as you can a peach or a purple pied, but many people only recognize IB and they turn their nose up at the other colors. My Opal has prompted questions such as "What's wrong with that one?"

Silver Pied and Whites!, oh the possibilities. I think DW and I were IB snobs when we started out but now we have seen the beauty in the Pied and color mixes. We have too many favorites to ever get rid of all our IBs, they will probably become full time free rangers and save our pen space for the high dollar birds. We were looking just yesterday at the birds when I heard her say, "Well there's another one we can't sell".

Still waiting for sun up...

Beautiful full moon tonight!

Beautiful pics, wish you could have gotten pics of the moon eclipse.

Not trying to change the subject, but did you notice that her crest "feathers" are dark, coming from her light head?

I don't think the crest feathers are actually dark, I think it is just a silhouette affect, if you blow up picture 2 of her, you can see the males dark crest behind her but her's looks lighter to me.

I looked on the enlarged version of all three photos and i also see dark crest feathers

so what does this mean?

I didn't think it actually meant anything, since we had already established that BS hens can have green crest feathers like New2's "Little Yellow", or tan/brown ones like most of my BS hens have.
