Show off your Peas!

I personally would go with what most people use. Many people use safeguard and can vouch for it working. That is why I decided on using safeguard.

If you do intend on using the pumpkin seeds and garlic to worm birds (which no one seems to recommend on this topic), just try it on one of them and give the others safeguard. I would hate for you to lose all of your birds worming with pumpkin seeds and garlic. Any loss is too much of course, and I wouldn't risk it, but if you are serious about using the pumpkin seeds and garlic don't use it on all of the birds.

Agreed and when it is almost time to worm them with the seeds go get a fecal done so you can see if it is working

it may not work for all worms just like other wormer do not kill certain worms, , if it works you also need to know how much can be used effectively cause just feeding them some might not be enough, how much is some

i do not know ...do you

I know pumpkin seeds work but not sure what parasites it kills same with Garlic. I've seen people saying Garlic works well with their sheep and pumpkin seeds with goats.

Explain how you can know something works when you have no idea what it works on and have never done any kind of tests to see if it works? And just because you have seen people saying something, doesn't make it true. Do you remember arguing with everyone on this forum who told you your hens had green blood? You said they absolutely had no green blood because the people who bred them told you they NEVER had any green blood in their birds, was that true?

It says pumpkin seeds are believed to kill round worms and tapeworms.YET, in this study, pumpkin seeds were not shown to help goats have lower fecal egg counts. Here is the study: http://www.desu.edu/sites/default/files/Pumpkin Seeds-Worms_DJO.pdf

It was done by the Delaware State University. So someone has put pumpkin seeds to the test, and they failed. Furthermore, they put the goats on concrete. I figure it would be even worse if they were on the bare ground perhaps.

A different University had better results, shown at the bottom, but they used some sort of drench. So basically just plain seeds didn't seem to be effective.

Even another question arises...What breed of pumpkin has the best seeds for worming? Is there a certain age that the pumpkin seeds should be taken that will make for the max worming benefits? So many factors.

So what should we do throw caution to the wind and hope it kills all the worms that can kill our peas just because some folks say this works or do a controlled test with multiple birds in the same condition with the same parasites and see what these seeds actually kill by having fecal done on birds before and after the worming method
, Hun ya just can't go around telling folks that might be new to these peas that something works without proof and how much one should use, a new person learning is trying to absorb all they can and posting that seeds can worm peas without more info just gets in the way causing confusion.

This chicken article vaguely mentions using pumpkin seeds as well for worming, and if you scroll down they reference the same study, which mainly summarized that more testing needed to be done to be for sure. Sure they have a nice graph at the end that makes pumpkin seeds look good, but mainly they need more testing and this was just for goats. If a chicken site is referencing an article on seeds being tested on goats, I am guessing not much has been done to test this on birds.

Fine then I'm just trying to think of ways that won't stress them out and having to catch them over and over can stress them out. Which would be counter productive. Stress will kill birds.

Kathy I was reading on one of your helpful threads...and im now going to be giving wormers as well as corid..I have never treated with corid before...what amounts for both the valbazen as well as corid.... would you give peafowl from 2014 hatch..they are my guess almost full size just without the trains also how much would you give a pheasant as well as a chicken....I feed them and keep their dishes full all the time so they have good weight on them compared to that white one....so I got the corid today and picking up valbazen...(spelling not sure) tommarow...I believe its 45 for 500ml...on the one site it says .2cc per bird for the valbazen...is this accurate..seem to me that the larger birds should get more

below in red are what you (Kathy) said you use for safeguard...for five straight days correct and then ten days after that reaply...so you use five days and then ten days after the five days...(which would be a total of 15 days) then you redo...would that be for another five straight days or just one application...
OEGB - 0.25ml
Cochin Bantam - 0.5ml
Six month old peacock - 1.25ml
RIR hen - 1.5ml
Jersey Giant hen - 2.25ml
Peahen - 2ml
Peacock - 3ml
Huge turkey - 7.5ml
Heritage turkey - 3.5ml
Muscovy drake - 3.25ml
Muscovy hen - 1.6ml
Big Gander - 7ml
